  2. Cool cool. Yeah I think the download is pretty good too. Is Kol really only 8? If he is, he's pretty smart for an 8 year old. I'm only 13. Hmm I can't tell if you're joking or not. God if he's not 8 then I'm really gullible... But my upload speed still isnt good enough yet!
  3. I tried going to help and I did what it said. Tried setting maximum bandwidth at 5000, 5500, and 6000. Then went to Optimize settings and clicked Apply Settings. Didn't really help much either.
  4. Hmm, so how does this thing work?

  6. Well I just got Cox few days ago and pretty satisfied with its speed. I was wondering though, if it could be a bit faster. I'm on the 5/2 plan. :::.. The first day I got Cox it was about 1644Kbps. Still wasn't 2Mbps, but now it got slower. A Cablenut file would help. One just for me! I looked through VanBuren's folder, but there was no file for 5/2Mbps Cable. I could use some help. Thanks guys! Edit: Here's my results without the CableNut tweaks. Forget to mention with the results above I used Verizon Fios PPPoE 5000/2000 custom file. Umm yeah I don't know if I have DHCP or PPPoE. Not really sure what they are. But here are the results: :::.. 7. Lol ok, I'll try WPA after I can get this working at all. Yeah it did say something about aquiring network address or whatever but never "aquired" it. Sorry for not being so good with computers (I'm 13 ,) but I don't remember entering a network key at all. I don't even know what that is. But, I followed the guide and did everything on the computer that the router was connected to. So no, I didn't do it on the laptop which I'm trying to get connected "wirelessly".
  8. Hmm. I can't seem to get this to work. I'm following the guide perfectly, but as soon as I add security (I'm using WEP just for now because it includes it in the guide and its more newbie friendly,) my laptop isn't able to connect well. It says the signal is excellent, but when I check the packets 0 are recieved. Also I get this balloon saying that "There is Limited or No Connection" or something. As soon as I remove that password it works again. I add it back, and it stops working. Here are a few screenshots. WEP Disabled: Able to browse websites. WEP Enabled: Google.com was not found! Any advice?
  9. Ok, so I just got Cox Cable and now I want to share that connection with other computers in my home. I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router With 4-Port Switch.Umm it says 2.4GHz and 54 Mbps on it too, but I'm not sure what that means. Ok, so here's the problem. When I insert the installation CD into my CD-ROM drive, it won't detect the router. At some point of the installation, it'll say "Unable to Detect Router. Please make sure the Router is Connected to the PC." But it is. Actually, the wireless conenction is already set up. My laptop can detect it, and connect to it. I just want to get further into the installation to set up set up security to keep those stupid neighbors out! I mean when I connect to their wireless I get like 300Kbps download (SBC YAHOO DSL I think,) and when they connect to mine they can get this: :::.. So I was wondering if there is anyway to get further into that installation or if there is another way to set up security. Can anyone help? Thanks.

  12. Yeah a lot of people had AOL at one point in time! Like me. I actually thought it was pretty fast. Then I thought it sucked and got my Verizon DSL. I was so happy once I got Verizon DSL, but I realized later it wasn't that fast. Only 768Kbps download speed. Just today, my Cox Cable was installed. Wow! About 5.6Mbps download, 1.6Mbps upload. I'm definitely satisfied!
  13. Wow. Cox is obviously the best ISP in Fairfax, VA. 5/768 package or 5/2 package I don't remember. But check out these speeds! :::.. I could use a Custom Cablenut file, because the ones in Van Buren's V7 don't have a 5/2 or 5/768 custom file. Still, I'm very happy that I have Cox Cable! I switched from 768Kbps download Verizon DSL, and have this great speed now. It should be perfect for anything! The guy who came to install our service had to take an extra hour though, Lol. Still, Cox is the best!
  14. Omg Yahoo DSL is that fast? That kills my Verizon DSL, by about 2Mbps. So much cheaper too! Heh. I think this could be my new ISP. Edit: Why is nothing available in my area. Oh, and sorry. I forgot that I wasn't being on topic. I can't really help, but I'm sure Van Buren could fix it for you!
  15. :::.. I talked to Verizon and asked them if my line qualified for 1.5Mbps or 3.0Mbps. I have a Westell 2200 modem. They said unfortunately, I didn't qualify. Then i asked is there any one to make it faster? They said sorry, but you'll have to stick with that speed. I'm canceling, but I need to find a good ISP available in my area first which is kinda hard. Is this only for Verizon? If I switch ISP will I still be capped at 768kbps?
  16. Well this just sucks. Earthlink Cable isn't availaible in my area. Bell South requires a Bell South phone number, and I'm not sure if it's that much better or not. I'm thinking of Cox now. My mom was like sure no problem, but then my dad is said no. He just said that if I keep on complaining he'll cut everything off and take my computer away. Haha. I need some ISP recommendations please.
  17. But what happens if my Earthlink service is activated while I still have Verizon DSL? Because I don't want to cancel DSL and wait for my Earthlink without any Internet. Is this okay?
  18. I have this exact same problem. Except that I've had Verizon for about a year now. I still have the 768kbps speed. It's actually slower, but oh well.
  19. Well then I need a new ISP. I need some more opinions on what people think I should get. I want to know if Earthlink Cable is any good, since it's the cheapest Cable I can find (5mbps advertised speed for $41.95/mo.)
  20. I called them. Been waiting on the line for 17 minutes. It'll be worth the wait I hope. Edit: What the hell! He said he was testing my speed and he said that I had 860kilobits/s. He said my line was provisioned for 768kilobits/s, and that it was better then what its supposed to be. But I pay $29.95 per month, and i thought my parents purchased the 1.5mpbs plan. That's just weird. Then he said bye really fast right after he told me this, and I was like bye...
  21. Yeah but Cox is $50/mo . If I had their Cable TV then it would be $40/mo, but I don't.
  22. I don't care about sticking with DSL I just don't want to stick with Verizon! I'll call them soon though and complain. If they decide to be stupid and not help me, then I'm considering Earthlink Cable or Bellsouth DSL.
  23. I already tried that few weeks ago. I don't qualify!
  24. I think I have 1.5Mbps plan, but I only have that speed. The $29.95 per month is the 1.5Mbps plan right?
