I was at work at an industrial park near Dulles Airport outside of Washington, DC. We got the news via email. I jumped in my car and went to the house to grab a TV. By the time I was headed back to work, the roads were swollen with traffic. Eight minutes to get home, seemed like an eternity to get back. Heard that the second tower was falling over the car radio. After the Pentagon was hit, the airport was shutdown. We were accustomed to hearing planes taking off and landing all the time. The silence was horrible. The only sound in the sky was an occasional fighter jet swooping over the runways at Dulles. The quiet at the airport over the next several days was so very strange. It was a horrible time.

Yeah, you know, something like that. I got quite an education on fiber from the tech that was here for the install. He was telling me about how they are testing the hell out of this network. Performance is great, every site comes up fast, streaming video... no wait time, no buffering. Connection to my terminal server is real time, no lag whatsoever......I think I'm going to like this FIOS. God help me if I have to move away from here.

I don't think it has much to do with my machine at this point. I've seen the test results go up and down all day. These guys (Verizon) are still working on the network nearby

I removed all tweaks and retested, then put Van's tweaks back in. Here are the results. Upload has fallen. I'm going out to get a new NIC just to see if there is a difference. Even as it is right now, it screams compared to what the performance had been on Adelphia and Skynet. I was logged into my Terminal Server at the office, and applicaions respond just as if I were on my workstation at the office. I'm a happy camper for now.

Yeah, Adelphia did pretty good job tho, So, I hope Time Warner speeds are same, I heard that roadrunner's upload abit little slower than Adelphia, and Comcast!
All depends on where you're located. The local infrastructure has alot to do with what kind of performance you'll realize. In my neighborhood, Adelphia sucks. Even their service tech told me I'll never see decent speeds here. No one is getting good speeds on this street. Yet just a few miles away the connection soars.

I wish I knew.... The vault WITH fiber is in my back yard. I watched them splicing it one Saturday morning. Verizon has been advertising that it is NOW ready and they're doing installs all around us. Don't have a scheduled date yet. One of the contractor techs told me that it would be about two weeks. That was two weeks ago. I guess it might take awhile. They laid fiber in the entire town of Leesburg to every home and business. There's a parade of Verizon trucks out on the roads every day.
I'll wait, my 3/1 wireless is holding up fine, and I'll be keeping it. The FIOS is going to replace the cable, which has both sucked AND blown since day one

If and when Verizon FiOS comes to your area, it won't be sneaking up on you. Verizon does a very good job of lighting up the newspapers with full page ads, TV commercials, and even go as far as hiring those mattress delivery trucks to carry their banner up and down the strteets. Thel'll park those banner trucks at street coners in the mnorning during rush hour. You'll see Verizon trucks and trucks marked 'Verizon Contractor' eveywhere for months. Once they start an install in a town or area, they go out of their way to let eveyone know. They do want to sign up as many subscribers as possible. You'll KNOW when it is in your town. Until then, you'd just be wasting your time.
