  1. The weather out here in Va and Md (where NOC is) sucks today. I would give irt time for the storms to pass and check again.

I know it sucks big, and I only have two more months on my contract. Adelphia is finally here :D

Don't be getting too giddy about getting Adelphia, they've got their problems too in No. VA.

  2. You have misunderstood how midpoint works. Midpoint will not help out on these speed tests because you are downloading one file, and one file only. Midpoint will help when you are download multiple files, or loading webpages because instead of say having 20 open connections through one modem, you will have 10 on one, and 10 on the other, therefore increasing your speed. It's not just an internet accelerator for one connection.

  3. After looking at his speed test history, that appears to be a cached test, his tests usually ranged in the 4-5mb range.

Look at my topic called Dual Modems with Midpoint Software.

    -REH

REH, I downloaded that Midpoint Software and tried it with this machine, two NICs with two separate ISPs. The program isn't designed to 'combine' the bandwidth of the two services. It will select one as a default and use the second as a 'failsafe'. That is to say that if one of the services should slow down or fall out completely, it will switch over to the other (faster)service without missing a beat. This program can and will decrease your download and upload times by splitting the files and sending them or receiving them over two pipes instead of one. This works a lot like a download manager does, in making multiple connections to a server.

In addition, the software can be used to set up a firewall and act as a NAT with out the use of a router. All the down stream computers are connected with a switch. This would work well in an office environment where you might want to use a computer as a NAT and firewall instead of a router to feed other comps in the office with broadband. Why do this instead of just using a router? A router will distribute the broadband equally among all connections. With the computer as a NAT, you can run software that can monitor and or/restrict broadband usage, basically assigning a local cap on individual computers or applications. (This is done at the office where I work, streaming video for video conferencing takes priority over say... surfing ebay or checking Hotmail.

I think some of the folks here have gotten the idea that this program will increase their stats. It is a very good program for what it does. But it is not designed to combine two broadband connections for the purpose of increasing your connection speeds..or improving your stats. For general surfing, it only uses one pipe, the fastest one.

I've been doing some reading about bridging with WinXP SP2. Bridging in XP was designed to combine workgroups for the purposes of file sharing or internet sharing, not for combining broadband  connections. Altrhough it will result in an increase in speed when configured properly on small home networks. Bridging broadband connections on large networks like schools or corporate setups, usually do not work and will actual result in a decrease in performance.

Give it time, though. I have no doubt that someone will come up with a way to do it.

  4. You already have the wireless router/modem right? which one, what's the make and model?

The wireless pci card runs from $40 to $70, dependss on the speed. If you have a 801.11b, its the low end. The 54g cost more. You can walk in and find them at Best Buy, or probably get a better price if you shop online.

  5. Sorry about that - yea i have a wireless liunksys router and each comp on our network connects through those stupid little boxes attatched to a usb port. Is there a different way i should hook up the wireless adapter?

Those USB devices will do in a pinch, but I've had better results with internal pci wireless cards in two of my desktops.

  6. Hey coldflame712, Greets and welcome to the forum. This is a good place to find help and learn. I've been around just for a short while, but feel I've learned a lot from these guys.

What make and model router are you using? What is the firmware version?

Have you done any set up on the router?

You mention: "The adapter says it can have speeds up to 54 Mbps" so we can assume it is a 54g model. There are settings within to select the wireless speed, have you done that? Is the wireless card in the PC with problems also a 54g flavor? If it is only an 801.11b, 11Mbps is all you're gonna get.

If this is a Linksys model, I can help you, if not....someone will

  7. I'd say your download looks good for a 4Mpbs connection, what is your upload doing? Your trace is clean except one tiny little bump between you and the gateway. That's the same place I'm having problems, loss as high as 24% at times. All my coax checks out good, but I'm going to string a new line to their box just to make sure. Adelphia won't own up to having network problems.

post a tracert from you to testmy.net

  9. Ok heres the deal... Each transaction made in paypal had an id associated with it. When they discover the money was sent to the wrong person all they have to do is look at the transaction. They will know immedietely where it went and to whom. There is no keeping that money. As far as legalities are concerned in keeping it, they will come up with something I can assure you.

THe moral issues are the most intense here and you seem to have risen to the test and will pass with flying colors. I must say that I am very impressed with SHUG7272 and his very profound statement regarding manhood. Kudos to you. THat is how we all should think. It use to be that without honor you were not a man. It is still that way to some of us. It should be to all of us.

With that I think you will be able to look in the mirror and be proud of who you see. When everything else has left you that is afterall all you have. We all need to remember that one day we will look and I hope we are able to stomach who and what we see.

    well said!

  10. Yeah, I did Van's tweeks, there is no router in this mix, I'm straight to the modem. I want to make sure this connection is working before I put a network on it. I got online chat help with Adelphia today. The first time we went thru all the typical 'when was the last time you???? Then I asked them if they had really provisioned me for the Premier. They then reprvisioned the modem. I tested and it was worse.

Got online with them again just 30 min. ago and got to tier 2. He had me go to testmy.net to get him a speed test, ran ipconfig and copied that info to him. Then he asked for dns and dhcp server names. Before I could respond, he cut me off because the chat exceeded a time limit...I suppose.

I've had it with these idiots. Where the hell am I going to get dns and dhcp server names with a cable modem connection. It isn't set up on the machine, nor is it in the modem. I don't know that it even applies.I think I'll just rip up their cable out of my yard tomorrow morning.

  11. I'm in the same boat. Just added Adelphia Premier 6768, eliminated the roiuter, jacked right into the modem, ran Van's tweaks for 6000768 and still getting a slow download. The upload has improved, but I don't think the tweaks had anything to do with it, I think it is Adelphia's network.

Just set this up, am running directly to the modem, Linksys BEFCMU10, brand new out of the box. Tweaked with Cablenut 1460 cable & dsl 6000/768

Contacted Adelphia online chat and they reset the modem online.

  15. A man goes to see the Rabbi. "Rabbi, something terrible is happening

and I have to talk to you about it." The Rabbi asked,  "What's wrong?"

The man replied, "My wife is poisoning me." The Rabbi, very surprised by

this, asks, "How can that be?" The man then pleads, "I'm telling you,

I'm certain she's poisoning me, what should I do?" The Rabbi then

offers, "Tell you what. Let me talk to her, I'll see what I can find out

and I'll let you know." A week later the Rabbi calls the man and says,

"Well, I spoke to your wife. I spoke to her on the phone for three

hours. You want my advice?" The man said yes and the Rabbi! replied,

    "Take the poison."

    :haha:
