thanx for all ur help fallowearth, i called my ISP and they said it was something wrong with the modem not my pc. the ethernet light wasnt suppose to be on all the time like that. so they r gonna send out another modem, and i will see how that works well thank you, and everyone that helped me on this

i havent tried but i think its my modem because like 3 months ago i just turned on my computer and ethernet jsut stopped working, so i called up qwest and asked what was up and they said just use USB.

any other ideas anyone?

hmm i tried that, it didnt seem to work. im startin to think its not my computer, it might be the modem because the ethernet light stays on all the time even when the ethernet cable isnt plugged in oh and it seems to be sending packets but not receiving i called qwest before they werent really any help but i will keep tryin different things, just keep up the posting of new ideas thanx for all the help

when i first typed ipconfig /all, it said 169.254.xxx.xxx. then i did the release and renew and it said unable to contact DHCP server

i wish i knew how... i tried damn near everything, but it just wont assign an ip address for the ethernet. whats weird is that the ethernet light stays on all the time even when the ethernet cable is not plugged in to the modem. if u can help i would appreciate it thanks for ur help

oh my bad, my ISP's advertised download/upload speeds are 1536/1024

my modem has 1 ethernet port, my isp is qwest, and the modem type is a GT701-WG. the 192.168.0.1 ip address is the gateway to it i guess. I dont use ethernet because there is a problem and it doesnt assign the ethernet connection and ip address, so i just use USB

hmmm weird... i dont got a router :

my advertised speeds is up to 1.5mb i think thats was qwest said it would be. and just let me know what else u need to know.
