  1. Hmmm... I don't know if I really want to pay $99 without a guarantee of speed, ya know? I mean $99 and still have a FAP... not sure if it is worth it... can you get the business plan on a DW6000 or do you have to upgrade, anyone know? Steph
  2. Thank you so much for the settings! I appreciate it! I will call them after we get back tonight! Steph
  3. What answers did you get in terms of price for an upgrade? I don't want to be stuck in a contract, since my contract has been up with Earthlink for quite some time and I am just on month to month... Has anyone heard from the Reverend lately? I can't remember the settings he gave me and that was on my desktop which I don't have anymore! lol I still don't know what settings to use for TCP Optimizer... I hate FAP by the way... like Stephen said, we pay way more than cable and they don't get FAPd!!! Steph
  4. Here I am being the only one in the house using the net right now: :::.. I'm still fed up with tech support/customer service though... they really treat their customers like crap! If I had any other option out here for high speed, I would be gone in a flash! I am still going to call Hughes and see if I can upgrade and switch to being directly with them. Steph
  5. As far as I know nobody is using P2P. I do 3D art, and I upload big files sometimes to the online shop I sell them through, so that is probably the high upload. My husband does SecondLife and I think that might be where a lot of our download is coming from... I am thinking of getting him a 3G service from Cingular(AT&T) for his laptop. That should free up the bandwidth on the satellite. Hughes called us today, while we were at work and Stephen forgot his cell phone at home, so we will have to call them back. Stephen says everything is grounded correctly. Steph
  6. Sure, I took 3 screen shots and pasted them into one image... So, what are my options that are better? Steph
  7. Yes, I understand that those a good speeds... but what about the ones you didn't mark?? Like 9 kbps, 16, 18... I did try to call Hughes directly and they haven't called me back... we were on hold for over an hour and decided to leave a message. Do you know if i have to have the DW7000 to get the pro or pro plus plan? And how much the modem would be if I did have to upgrade? Thanks, Steph
  8. So, 60 Kb is a good speed?? That is typical without FAP and with FAP 5Kb is typical... I never said I thought I should have a 3M connection... only what is advertised. I have tried to upgrade, but apparently I can't... we tried to call Hughes directly last night, but after an hour on hold, we gave up... I did hte LiveChat via Earthlink and was "transferred" 3 times, was told to call the number, told them we were on hold for 6 hours the night before and they said they would have someone call us within 30 minutes... someone called allright... automated and we were on hold an hour and 15 minutes, then gave up. They won't open a trouble ticket for us still...
  9. Can someone talk me through what settings I should be using for TCP Optimizer? Steph
  10. I hear ya!! We can't get DSL because we are 400 FEET too far out!!! That is crazy!! There is a "hub" box or whatever it is called 1/2 a mile up the road from us... they say they install DSL unless they can GUARANTEE the speed... Steph
  11. Apparently can't upgrade, get this message: The Site ID you entered is not eligible for this upgrade program. Please contact your service provider for additional information. Yes, the router is secure, and there really isn't any concern about someone stealing our internet... there isn't anyone out here! lol Ok, anyone know any other high speed I can get out in the sticks in Missouri?? I really have had it with satellite... it has NEVER been high speed for us... Steph
  12. We have tried that, the speed is still bad... and as far as someone tapping into our network... not possible, we have no neighbors. Steph
  13. No, we haven't beed FAPd since the beginning... we just recently started getting FAPd and we aren't doing anything different than from before. We have had speed issues from the beginning. The first 6 months of the service, Stephen was on the phone with tech support more than we were on the internet trying to figure out why it wasn't working. We finally got in touch with The Reverend and he called me and walked me through setup... and that worked for a while, but not very long... I think HN figured out we were getting good speeds and pushed their CRAPPY button. We even asked if we were being FAPd and they said no... I don't know where the upgrade section is, I will look, but I know I can't setup an account on their myway page, because I have tried before, won't let me because I go through Earthlink. I see pricing for a new account, but not just for an upgrade, so I guess we will call them. There is NO e-mail link anywhere on the site that I can find! lol Thanks! Steph
  14. I don't think so, because we have had these speed problems ever since we got the satallite service... and we haven't had the desktop that whole time.
  15. ) You mentioned 3 computers use this system, how do they connect to the modem and is there wireless networking? We all connect through a wireless router. 2) Have all 3 been cleaned for spyware and viruses and all temp cleaned, also defragged? The laptops have been, but not the desktop. 3)Your husband uses one, you use one, who uses the third? It is my kids' computer. 4) Have you tried unplugging everything (Network cable only) from the modem for 24 hours? Nobody can tap into your system unless their plugged into the modem and should clear your FAP and be sure you keep the modem on. No, I can't shut off the internet for 24 hours... I go to school on the internet.,,, I can probably do 8-12 hours though... ( 70 for a home plan, this should get you pro plan with a 350MB bucket) I know, we go through Earthlink and they CLAIM this is the only plan they offer. We know that Hughes offers a Pro and a Pro Plus Plan. We would love to get on the Plus plan if it will help our situation. Is it possible to switch directly to Hughes and would we need to upgrade to the DW7000 and if so, how much is that? Steph
  16. Ok, I will try that. I think it is a shame that you have to go through all of that in order for this service to work properly... my husband is still on the phone with tech support... but they won't do anything about the speed, so we will probably call Hughes directly tomorrow and there will be a report made to the BBB about the service. This is just ridiculous!! We also asked how we could be downloading stuff when our computers are not even on... they show us DLing stuff in the middle of the day when there is nobody even home, and we have taken our laptops with us!!! Anyway, thanks! I am gonna go to sleep... ugh! lol
  17. I thought I had said in my original message that I AM Fap'd. But even Fap'd, my speed should be at least dial up speed, shouldn't it? I do not restart my modem daily... should I? It is grounded. We are on whatever package that Earthlink offers, I believe it is the home... I don't download large files at home, I go to a hotspot and use t-mobile on my internet. They are showing us downloading a 200+MB file today when we were not even home! We don't have close neighbors so nobody could be leeching... I haven't cleaned out temp cookies... will that help?? Steph
  18. Ok, I guess we will check that tomorrow, since it is dark outside. It is snowing, but this is the same speed we have been having since we got the satellite. Steph
  19. Signal strength is 66, we don't think it has changed any... what is a feedhorn? lol

  22. aakash... I don't know what you are asking me... I want to see if there are any other options for internet in rural areas or if there is anything I can do to make my satellite internet better.
  23. dlewis23: Yes, I have tweaked and tweaked and anything I do only works for a few hours at best. Also, we have 3 computers that can access the internet in our house and all of them are getting these speeds. Done spyware and virus scans. aakash: no.. like wifi... not wireless networking. They just transferred him again...
