  1. Nope, as soon as I applied the new settings I got an alert and the transmit and system lights on the modem went out. As long as there is no benefit to bypass the proxy this is fine. I was only wondering if it would speed things up. I did use the proxy settings that DW sent me which differs some from the instructions online-local host directwaysupport.com; is changed to systemcontrolcenter.com;. Next time I reboot I'll have to see if windows changed the proxy settings again. For some reason it changes to AdSubtract-a software program I have installed on my PC. I don't know enough about proxy settings to do anything other then follow a written instruction to set it up, and I didn't set it up with AdSubtract and I doubt the installer did either. I'll try to do a test round 7 but I am already aware that I do slow down around that time. My comments were only that after reading of some of the really slow speeds other DW user's experience and the endless advice to tweek this and that, I feel d**m lucky since I am no whiz at all of that!
  2. Thanks for the info. Tried without proxy and it didn't work. Here are the speeds for today: :::.. 3. I have had my system for a couple of months now and after reading the boards I have several questions. I am on the Pro plan using the IA8 (89 West) and frequency 1150. Receive and Transmit Polarization are both horizontal. My signal strength is between 68 and 70 on a regular basis. Here is the speed test taken earlier and I should note that there was a fairly heavy snow storm happening at the time here. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1108 Kbps about 1.1 Mbps (tested with 748 kB) Download Speed is:: 135 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server2) Test Time:: Sat Feb 4 10:29:20 EST 2006 Bottom Line:: 20X faster than 56K 1MB download in 7.59 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 22.7 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-30Y4OIHZS :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 130 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Upload Speed is:: 16 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server2) Test Time:: Sat Feb 4 10:30:21 EST 2006 Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 64 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 68.83 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-06XKNZCT2 Other then high use hours my upload speeds are generally 150-190 range and downloads are consistant to the above. So after reading these postings I feel like I am setting pretty good compared to a lot of other posters comments on speed etc. I might also add that I don't think I have had a clear day yet to test. It has been cloudy here for weeks. Any comments? Here are some questions I have. I read some folks talk of powering the modem up. Am I supposed to shut it off? How do I do that short of unplugging it? Does everyone use a proxy server or do some of you bypass it? The reason I ask is because after some problems with DW's home page I was instructed to change the port and HTTP settings by DW. I did that and things worked fine. The problem for me here is that when I reboot, somehow, the proxy settings are changed back to the original settings, I guess from the installer. Things still working on the old settings, but can I bypass the proxy server and is there a benefit? Thanks for all of the tips and comments-they have been very helpful to this newbie-yes I live in the sticks with a lot of sky!
