hello guys, today morning when i switched on my modem it worked in the right way and after getting the Link LED(i am using my ISP(www.dataone.in) provided modem viz., HUAWEI produced SMARTAX MT841) turned ON I opened opera browser it has to start with the home page but instantly it showed that could not open the page!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! again another problem in the last few days(last problem i had with the modem, day before yesterday) and tried my hand with firefox and it too almost instantly instead of opening with the home page opened with "couldnot open the requested page" what is this hell????????????? ???? Finally i tried with IE6 and it showed what the other two showed !!!!!!!!!ah aha i tried to update ad aware and it got updated and i did the same with spybot expecting it to do the same but it showed "ERROR no11004" i checked with all the internet connection settings and they were all correct as i had set them. no changes anywhere!!!!!!!!!! it was then i opened a word document which i have created with the content of this forum it contains like if there is no connection do this, if there is no browsing then do this. actually i dint know where is that content in this forum now but i made that word file long back!!!!!!!!! i checked with it sequentially one by one, first i checked with my modem cables and then i went to cmd prompt and typed ipconfig and then ping request they all worked and then turned off firewall, checked network adapters and finally i came to "Check Protocol Settings" the engineer in my ISP had given me some IP addresses to be typed in the TCP/IP properties window and i had it so but now i changed it with "obtain an IP address automatically" and the "obtain DNS server address automatically" and i checked with my browsing it worked !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my google home page came up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then i again went to that window and changed those settings to whatever my ISP engineer had given me and its working fine now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The above is a brief account of whatever happened today morning can anyone point out what would have been the problem?

guys i need your valuable reviews about this software callled full speed from (www.getfullspeed.com)!!!!!!!!!!!!! i got it in google search but has no clue of any mprovement in my speed after its application so guys post your reviews if you have used it!!!!!!!!!!!!

ah ah after trying some dozen softwares i finally settled for one called "shutdown"(attached pic) its really superb dudes just shutting down the the whole pc some softwares i tried caused some serious effects such as keeping the system time constant and all, but this one is a sure win over them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks guys for replies............

what is that set times.....?????????? in fact i searched with google and downloaded a small software called delayed shutdown by Alexander G. Styopkin. and gave it a try.but oops!!!!! it returned with the screen displaying "It is now safe to turn off your computer" oh god.. i never thought i would see such a quote in Windows XP! and my power light didn't goes off after this(attached pictures)

@ swimmer i don't use a router dude ok how to use that command in the command prompt that u were talking about to shut down my computer first of all what 's that command?can u explain a bit more?

hi guys i just want to turn off my cable modem at a predefined time. is there any software for doing this job? in other words, i don't want any transfers or any kind of internet activity in my pc after that predefined time, is there any way i can do that?? or atleast i can shut down my computer automatically so that so internet activity is not there even if my modem is ON? i tried with hibernation in the Power Options but i want your opinion friends!!!! thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes roco i searched it with google i downloaded a debugging file from microsoft.com but its of no use i downloaded wininet.dll from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?wininet and placed it in system32 folder and now i have to restart to check whether those problems continue i am restarting now and will revert back

do i have to download "wininet.dll" separately and place it in system32???????

@roco in normal mode its ok to see those things in AVG but in safe mode i ve never seen reading error in boot sector and in partition table some internet based applications in my pc couldnot be started coz it tells me "WININET.DLL couldnot be found"

@ dlewis23 i have windows '98 in C: and windows XP in D: and as u told i ran the error check on both these discs but no errors showed up but while startup some applications like yahoo messenger and JAVA console could n't be started telling me that "WININET.DLL couldnot be found"

hi guys i ran a ewido online scan and it found some 8 viruses in windows/system32/wininet.dll i removed the infections and restarted in safemode and ran a AVG virus scan and it showed like there is a reading error in partition table and boot sector in drive C: after exiting from safe mode i restarted the xp os and again i ran a AVG virus scan and it showed nothing like reading error but change in boot sector in C: what should i do????????

hi guys i have one question for many years in my mind left unanswered why the upload speed is not the same as download speed? the cable which is going to be used is the same for both upload and download but why is this very large variation in upload and download speeds?????????

hi guys today i tried to download avg antivirus with the link given in this site as shown below http://www.grisoft.com/doc/Programs/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 and simultaneously i tried the same with google search and i stumbled upon a completely different site with the address as http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 thus i found two sites for the same download. is there a duplicate??? while downloading the setup files i found their file sizes to be 25.2 mb for the one which is specified in this forum and 16.5 mb for the one which was found through google search which i need to install ??????can anyone pls clarify in this matter??????

hi guys recently i downloaded avg free antivirus from the link in this forum but while installation it asked me to provide the licence number without which i couldn't proceed with the installation, it also told me that i would have received the licence number via email , bla ,bla but i directly downloaded it from the site and i haven't registered for any kind of subscription or anything else to receive a licence number what can i do for continuing with the installation????????

@ disturbed hey i know that i m exposing my pc to the world over once i switch on my modem but the point is that thro limewire am i exposing willingly and unknowingly to the hackers

hi friends recently i installed limewire for downloading pics,music,etc.,. but after using it a couple of times my firewall(zone alarm) is showing the hacker intrusions like never before that is before installation of the limewire software the firewall showed zero access attempts but after its installation and usage the number of hacker attempts showed to me was something nearer to 437 i am really shocked, is it advisable to use limewire? hereafter can i continue using limewire ? am i exposing willingly my computer to the hackers through the limewire? long back i performed a intrusion test through the shieldsup site and i was happy to see that my computer passed those tests with that site with 0 access attempts but now i 'm really worried at the view of my firewall results can i use limewire hereafter ????????????? please help me guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

guys in my comp there are about 3 or even 5 SVCHOST.EXE running in parallel all occupying an accumulative big memory space some of them may have been started by SYSTEM and others by NETWORK SERVICE or LOCAL SERVICE so only a bit curious about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @fallow earth is there any connection between SVCHOST.EXE and spywares??????????????????

HI guys i want to know what is that SVCHOST.EXE wnich shows up in the task manager and i am really sick of it for it is eating up most of my memory what is that SVCHOST.EXE??????? can i shut down those processes?????????
