I THINK I found one on eBay. The company sells ANY key you need for the Acer Aspire Netbook but I have to wait until I get home to make sure it is correct laptop key. $3.99 with free shipping is OKAY but worth it to me just for her. Thanks for the help! N naa no pink laptop for me haha.

Thats because the difference between 266 DDR and 333 DDR is minimal. But going from 800 MHz to 533 MHz DDR2 its a quite a bit bigger difference and its not just the MHz rating that factored into it.

yeah, i probably should have said that those two kinds were pretty similar instead of just saying they work great together, thanks for adding to it.

Its either going to work or its not. But it wont Blow anything up.

The only reason it may not work is because its 4200 DDR2. I've seen a lot of computers not work with slower DDR2. The Cut off was 5300, with 800 MHz ram. But it can't hurt to try.

Just to add. You probably will notice a performance difference with memory intensive apps.

just to add one more thing. i do know that ram types such as 2700 ddr2 works great with 2100 ddr2, without really having a slowdown. or at least that ive noticed.

if they are both ddr 2 it should work but be advised it will only work at the lower speed as it is backward compatable

and i would also add, if you can not find a way to find out what ram type it is for each, you can download the memory checker from crucial's website and it will tell you. such as it might be ddr2 pc5300 or something like that. and like rayj said, whichever is the slower one is what both will work at.

well i basically gave up on it, after i plugged in everything correctly on my old dell desktop and literally sparked a fire and blew up my usb drive while it was spinning up.

im now just going to transfer all of my important data over to dvd-r discs. forget the risk of that external drive.

and well ive used the enclosure like this before and it worked great, but yeah the enclosure has the usb cord and then a power slot that plugs into a ps2 drive, which i dont have on my laptop so i use my sleep and charge port to power and use the drive. its worked numerous times in the past and seems to work now, except that i cant access anything

and you are correct, it does say found new hardware and all that. i finally got it to recognize long enough in device manager and my computer so that i could go into command prompt and do the Format G: command and it says its working but my activity light on the enclosure only flashes a few seconds every few minutes and i have no progress being made.

and sadly no i do not have an extra laptop to plug it into. (i would take this laptop drive out and format the drive with this laptop but ive had problems with the drive not recognizing right away after ive done it before so i dont want to risk it)

Well i recently was given a kingwin 2.5" external drive enclosure. ive used it many times and it works great. but my problem is with this new 80gb drive i have in it im planning on using to back up some important data. i know the hard drive works great but when i plug it in to the enclosure and then to my computer it will either freeze up my computer when i try to open it from windows explorer. it will not allow disk management to refresh to show my drives so i can format it, and it'll lock up my computer when i try to go into properties and click "populate" to get it to read the drive and allow me to format it.

i did get it to work once so far, but when it said the drive needed to be formatted i clicked ok and it then said "windows can not format this drive"....

so now im left wondering how to get this to work.

i have windows 7 64bit home premium, and its a 80gb 2.5" laptop hard drive in an ide to usb enclosure. and the power lights and hard drive activity lights come on but still have the issues i stated above.

edit/ also, it recognizes it in windows explorer, or my computer, as drive G:

and also recognizes it in device manager and states its running fine. im about to uninstall the driver and reboot and see if that helps any. i'll post up my results.

edit#2/ still nothing. same results as before.

although its weird, when i unplug the drive it pops up saying i have to format it...so i plug it back in and click format and it doesnt do anything.

Ok, Now I know what I did wrong. Long story, But I deleted windows 7 from her laptop and reinstalled with Windows 7 64 bit pro. I bought two copies of it. Now if her Laptop throws a fit, I can reinstall no problem. Same way with my desktop. I needed to download the software from toshiba. Did that. All is well. Not sure if you can charge while using it, But works fine when you put the laptop to sleep. I thank you so very much.

also, if your camera is a lithium ion battery camera like mine is, its pretty cool to have it charge on your laptop so you dont have to go find an outlet if you are away from home.

Ok, Yea sorry about forgetting ya starship. I went with the one right above yours. It was like a thousand. It was the next step up. I will dig around and try to find the model number forsure. Sweet laptop. Gf very happy with it. In turn makes me very happy with it.

lol you probably didnt realize it was me because my username used to be RyanS. but got switched back to starship_troopers after the forum got upgraded. but its no biggie. btw, im really glad she likes the laptop.

and it looks to me like the same port is on your laptop as on mine, in about the same spot, so im certain that would work. like i said, i use it to charge my phone and camera while they are plugged in to transfer files/images. i also use it to keep power on my external drive. let me know if it works out.

I dont remember the user that recommended my new laptop that I bought. I got a small problem. The gf has lost her charging cord for her digital cam. Before I head to radio shack in hopes of being able to replace it, I THINK one of the usb ports on her laptop can be used for charging. I know the user who recommended the tosihiba told me that if I remember right. Which USB port is used for charging?

Hey bro, i recommended the toshiba a505 laptop i do believe thats the one you mean. and yes i have that one.

and if you could link me to some pics of your model i can show you for sure, but on mine, on the left side of the laptop is an external SATA/usb drive. and it has sleep and charge on it. (sleep and charge works on all but one of the usb ports on mine, but i typically use just that one.)

i have the toshiba satellite a505-s6985 model. attached is a pic of the one that is the sleep and charge port. when you plug in a usb device such as a phone or camera or something a window should pop up if you have sleep and charge and it'll explain what happens. which is basically it'll charge when you have it plugged in.

Okay, I fixed the sound issue...I had to pull the battery...very interesting...

every once in a blue moon i have to restart my computer because when i turn it on its either no sound or my wireless net wont pick up. a restart fixes it for me, but like i said its so rare i havent tried to figure out why it happens. is this the first time its happened for you?

Mine does the same thing with the sound every once and a blue moon bro. I guess just some minor glitches! Ordered me a Microsoft Mobile 6000 mouse anyway for $29.99, so I will be using that more often.

it just hit me that i also have that same mouse. and it hasnt happened with me while using this mouse yet. (the mouse issue) so perhaps your problem would be solved as well! if not post back and i'll help ya figure it out!

Okay this question is for the dude who has the a505. Or anyone that may know the issue. Okay ever since I owned this laptop I have been having this small issue. When ever I get to doing a bunch of things, sometimes my mouse will freeze up for a very few seconds and then everything will be good again. Any clue why this would do this? I donno if it is something I should be worried about n take the laptop back or what. I'd rather not take the laptop back because I just broke this bad boy in and am in love with it.

hey man, i had that problem with a505 when i first got it, but honestly it seemed like it only happened when i had the touch pad on. but after a while it just stopped happening. not sure what it was, but i'll do some research and testing to see if i can figure out what fixed it.

also you had a question a while back about my battery. mine is just a 6 cell, so it fits nicely in the back without sticking out like the 9 cell does.

i know that every once in a while my sound will act weird. it'll like glitch then catch up with its self then run fine again for who knows how long. its weird, i still havent figured that out either.

but i'll let you know what i find out about the mouse.

i just tested it on my last post that shug quoted. and when i put like 14 smileys it said it was too many. i took it down to 10 in my last post with all the nerd smileys and it works. so its somewhere between 11 and 14 as a limit to smileys per post. at least for my group that im in. hope that helps somehow.

In my town (south kansas) Cable One has updated their service...WITHOUT telling anyone. i was on the 3mbps download package. they dropped that package and replaced it with a 5mbps download package...they never notified me, or made changes to my plan. i was not locked in a contract or anything. i eventually found out and today called support and had them change me over to 5mbps. the tech said there will not be changes to anyone's plans for a while to come and i have not been notified still that my old package was dropped from their line up...

my old tests were spot on, but when i found out i had been paying for 5mbps and only getting 3mbps since my package was discontinued i was pretty pissed. wouldnt you be?

i just wanted to bring this subject up for anyone else it may affect. and my question to everyone is this: do you think cable one should have notified everyone of these changes, or just let it go unchanged like they did? personally i think it was a cheap shot to me, as i pay on time every month and i always test my speeds to make sure. yet at the same time they cant even tell me they changed services around and dropped what i pay for and replaced it with an upgraded package and didnt even fix my speeds...i think that shows they dont care about the customers.
