Once again, This topic will be edited when I receive the TV and HD Cable box as the TV we got is considered a monitor and has no tuner itself, So around next week we will have the HD Box and we will be set (damn comcast place is closed on weekends.)

  2. Thanks, man.  That must explain it, that and me getting some abnormally high powerboosted download speeds at the same time.  Maybe when they rolled out the upload powerboost, they increased the cap (or removed it entirely) on the download side of things too in my area.

Nahh, The powerboost itself is completely random, Ive seen anywhere from 10 mb speeds to 50 mb speeds.

  3. Actually, to be honest, I powercycle my modem and router all the time (we lose power twice a week at least)  :uglystupid2:

And I know I have been experiencing the powerboost feature for a year or more now, since I did consistently get more than 8 megabit down on tests for quite a while, sometimes more than twice that amount.  Plus, don't you think it's weird that it happened to both me and my friend in the same neighborhood on the same day it seems?  I'm guessing it must just have been Comcast upgrading their pipe in my area.

BTW, how new is the upload powerboost?  A week or less?

Powerboost takes quite awhile to roll out, I know I seen people on testmy.net experiencing it way before me, I got it a week after the first person to post on here. So its just a matter of when they start rolling it out to your area. And that is why you and your friend got it on the same day, They roll it out one area at a time.

  4. Thanks Nos.  Have you been getting that upload speed consistently since Comcast added powerboost?

All I know is SOMETHING must have changed... atleast in my area.  I have been testing this connection often for years and I have never once seen it burst over 2.5 Megabytes/sec download or 95 kiloBytes/sec on upload.  I used to quite often get the tests I posted today (16 MBit down) with the PowerBoost feature but I'm telling you, I've never seen powerboost perform anywhere near this level.  My friend noticed the exact same thing.  Keep in mind the scores I posted on this thread arent anywhere near what I got consistently at home last night and this morning (25-32 megabit down, 3+ megabit up)

Maybe Comcast just turned on our powerboost feature on the upload side of things, in my neighborhood?  I mean it literally is 6x faster than it ever was all the time now.  Or maybe they increased the bandwidth on there end in my area?    Anyone have any more info?

You probably never ever reset your cable modem or powercycled it, So Im guessing your power went out recentaly or you had to unplug it, But anyways whenever an ISP makes a service change you have to powercycle your modem in order to receive the new speeds.

Upload powerboost is a new thing, The download boost has been around for quite awhile now.

  5. Zombievac, All you are experiencing is Comcast's powerboost, You are not receiving anything other than what I am receiving.

And also the results you are seeing on remote desktop are accurate, You see from remote desktop the same you would see if you were sitting right at the computer, Your office connection doesnt conflict the speed results.

  7. On another note: G4 absolutely BLOWS compared to what TechTV used to be....

You hit the nail on the head, TechTV used to be my favorite station, Although I am a Console/PC Gamer I barely ever watch TechTV now.

On another note: Attack of the Show is horrible compared to what Screensavers was.

  8. Yeah buntz we have already had all that stuff checked out.

About a week ago actually, We had to have comcast come out here to check our current service because of issues, it was actually  our TV (My parents didnt beleive me in the first place!!) So thats why I am looking at new TV's. But anyways we got the newest cable box now. Its so small, Its about the size of an SB5100 SurfBoard modem :D.

  9. does anyone know if "Olevia" is a good brand?

Havn't heard much about them, Maybe someone else has.

I like rear projection HDTVs actually they look awsome i know my brother has one and so does my sister in theater room in there house.    my brother buys nothing but the best.  hell his wiring for his theater system cost over 10,000 dollars.  his surround sound is powered by oknyo and his speakers are of course nothing but the best Bose.  7.1 surround alot better then the movie theaters from what i have noticed.

As far as bose speakers goes, They are way overpriced. But I do like there Bookshelf speakers, But the subwoofers bose makes are total garbage, I could setup a car stereo sub that would sound much much better.

  10. Our old Standard TV is about to die so we have been looking at HDTV's, Until about a week ago we thought they were very expensive, Until last night. I seen a 42" LCD HDTV at bestbuy for get this. $999, I have never seen such a deal, They also have a 32" for $799.

So did the prices actually drop? or is it just sales?

  11. pc <> used car. a car will have a decent resale value after a year. it will lose maybe 20 percent give or take 10 percent in first year depending on make and model. a pc after one year will lose more like 60 percent. even more if it was a cheap model to begin with.

usually it isn;t worth selling a pc, you should just find a use for it or give it to a family member that needs one.

    Folding@Home. :D
