  1. hey hey...

    i bought a set of memorex cdrw's and tried making a CD...well the cd was blank when i tried to play it....

    tried another...same thing...put one of the blank CD's in another drive and says its not readable....

    did i get a bad batch of CD's or am i missing something here...?

    thanx :confused2:

    I know exactly what is happening here.  CDRW requires that you use a special interface addon...most of the major software like NERO installs this automatically.  If the PC you are taking them to does not have the driver addon you won't be able to access CDRW.  Now the exact process is not well described by me here but I think you get the idea.

  2. :haha:  If thats the worst thing that happens this Halloween life is grand.... :angel:

    Now back to the AVATAR thingy....I have a special Halloween night AVATAR that i will be using later...this is my pre Halloween AVATAR.

    I want to see some ppl IN COSTUME .....certainly there are lots of them out there that are not in use here...

  3. I just throw my keyboard in the sink and let water run on it for 25 mins. But you cant plug it in for a few days after that  :azn:

    Actually Ryan you can if you put it in the dishwasher on the top rack.  BUT the keyboard must be switch type, not membrane...membrane is very very bad.  When I worked for Wyse Technologies we used to tell ppl to do that all the time....never had one damaged because of it...

  4. Ok ISP geek, give me a hou_ , I will dig up me Nan, * now we_e is that spade *

    (P.S. can I say spade ? ) :haha:

    Su e you can say spade, afte  all you a e using it to dig up your AVATA fo display he e.  Don't most ghouls dig up thei  Avata s using a spade?  Unless of cou se its a giant AVATA  in which case you would most ce tainly use a shovel.

    10:12:43 PM Jesse MNot that I'm aware of. I'm looking at your modem right now.

    10:13:06 PM Youeveryone that i know on insightbb has these incredible speeds

    10:13:30 PM Youhere, take a look at this

    10:13:31 PM Youhttp://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=11010.msg181243;topicseen#new

    10:13:40 PMY oulook twords the bottom

    10:13:46 PM Youa couple of insightbb speeds

    10:16:26 PM Youcan you ask if they are upgrading?

    10:17:41 PM Jesse MEverything looks good on your modem. Ping times are normal. No maintence in the area. The only thing out of the ordinary is your upstream packets are high; which means your transmitting a ton of data. This is usually an indication of spyware or a virus.

    10:18:16 PM You lol, i was testing my upload speeds

    10:18:24 PM You i am getting very fast speeds for the basic plan

    10:19:24 PM You

    ::::::::::.. Upload Stats ..::::::::::

    Upload Connection is:: 549 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB)

    Upload Speed is:: 67 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1)

    Test Time:: 2006/10/29 - 8:18pm

    Bottom Line:: 10X faster than 56K 1MB Upload in 15.28 sec

    Tested from a 1013 kB file and took 15.128 seconds to complete

    Upload Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 28.27 % faster than the average for host (7.37)

    10:19:30 PMJ esse MOr also it could be an indication of p2p software.

    10:19:50 PM Youits not bad, i am just saying that its fast

    10:20:00 PM Youi dont have any viruses, spyware or anything like that

    10:20:13 PM Youwas just askin if they are starting the upgrade process

    10:20:35 PM Jesse MWe haven't yet.

    10:20:47 PM Youok, thanks

    they are still dumb.. they dont know when they are upgrading.. i think they are though lol!

    It's very common for providers to single out subs in blocks to test new technologies, speeds, whatever...for a period of time.  You won't be notified and tier one support may not even know.  There are reasons behind this..enjoy your speeds but don't be sad if they go back to what is normal for you after a short time.  In time they will come back as the product is made available to everyone.

  6. I totally concur with you...but based on what I have seen with that industry they have gotten away with the tactic for years.  Now if their user base up and revolted things would be different...but how can they...they are not on satellite internet by choice and these companies know this.  They have a 100% captive audience...they can do as they please...when they please...what ya gonna do...go back to dialup?

  7. I cannot tell a lie.

    In my sig it says DW 6000, meaning DirecWay or "Hughes.net". They are simply try their old game if you want an upgrade we will charge you for new equipment, and a new 15 month contract all over again "CRAP" to be exact! SO far the upgrade is pretty much crap compared to the others giving up upgrades as part of the service, but Heck No, not Hughes.net!

    And next you will notice I said "They make satelite SUCK"  :knuppel2:

    Ahhh yes...and I blv that Hughes is capping the older equipment in effort to force ppl to upgrade.....

  8. If anything it is getting worse. Our ISP is starting to reduce bandwidth. The old modems that you could tweak for speed is being throttled down. I had bought 2 in hopes of going that route. But they closed the door on that option. They were capable of up to 3000 Kbps D/L, Now they have capped them at around 1000-1250 Kbps.

    Damned I hope something shows up soon. They make satelite SUCK.

    When all around you are getting increases, and you are getting capped lower. It should be illegal. :angry5:

    Ummm...something is not right about this...lets talk turkey.  First of all who is the provider...and is it just possible they are trying to force you to modem swap.  This was one the tactics used to "encourage" ppl to switch to newer modems because many resist until the bitter end.

  9. i have seen just about every ISP lease them for about 5 dollars per month.. something like that.. but its better just to buy one because there is usually a warantee on them, and they CAN be faster

    The purchased modem will not be faster.  Speed is determined by the bin file as programmed by the provider.  Signal issues that affect the performance of the providers modem will also have the same affect on the privately owned modem.  Additionally there is no warranty for lightning damage through the mfr.  If you have the providers modem you worry about nothing....if it dies, gets destroyed by lightning or surge its covered...plain and simple.

    The bottom line here is that if his provider gives the modem without charge he should take full advantage of it....if not...then purchasing a modem is just fine...but there is NO advantage to the consumer owning his modem if the company provides them for free...despite what popular forum myth may be...

  10. I know that Cox in most parts of the country does not, nor does Bright House Networks..  I'm sorry that your cable company charges...he should still check with his cable company to make sure...he may very well be surprised.

  11. I'm looking into buying a cable modem in the next couple days... any suggestions?

    Before you buy make sure your ISP charges for them...if not, get theirs...that way if it gets damaged or goes bad...they pay for it.  Most cable co's do not charge for modems any more...and you will have no speed or reliabiliy advantage to owning your own.
