Who on here uses wireless and who on here uses wired and what are your speeds and who are you with???
I myself spend most of my time on my wireless laptop and she has a wireless laptop as well and we do have a main pc thats wired but i mainly use that for our server for pushing and storing large data. I have Midcontinent for my ISP www.midcocomm.com and i have there midco max package which is unrestricted down and 512 up.

it could be worse right?
Yeah i guess your right, i can remember just a few years ago when i was on dialup back in 1998 through 2002 now that really sucked lol waiting an hour just to download a 16 meg file or even 20 min just to download a song lol
So yeah looking back at that I dont think that none of us should complain about our speeds assuming that most everybody on the net now has some sort of high speed.
I can remeber when i was so excited of getting the dual ISDN line a whole 128kb lol smoking lol

check router MTU, set it to 1500
VanBuren
Thats wierd since my router is set at the default 1500 I think I am comming to the conclusion that those sites are in accurate.

One site says one thing and the other site says another lol
-
Ok I ran that and heres the link for the results, i did disable the autotune and re-enabled it

when did u take those speed tests from verizon?
-
your tcp windows is clashing with ur mss
i am not 100% sure but would this not cause fragmentation when leaving ur router to the internet
I am just suprised that since vistas been in beta for a long time that no one was developed software to boost your tcp/ip settings

VanBuren just out of curiousity i did a traceroute to you ISP and i you do one to my ISP midcocomm.com I would appreciate it.

its ethernet, advertised 100Mbps down and 10Mbps upstream, but lately its more like 75Mbps down and 13 Mbps up.
VanBuren
Wow thats insane your really lucky i whish the United States would kick it up to that and what country are you from??
I only average around 9 to 10MB with my Wireless Laptop. Is it true that you lose alot with wireless because i know with my wired PC i get around 13MB

...in speedfan can anyone guess as to what is supposedly so high in temp....look at temp 1.
sorry for double post. for some reason it wouldnt save my extra screenshot when i tried to edit my post
wow you have alot of icons on your desktop lol
-
Speedfan is notorious for bad temp reporting. Try a temp program from your motherboard manufacturer it should give better results. And if you want even more reliable temp monitoring try a temp probe that goes into a drive bay and has a sensor attached. Just place the sensor on the cover of the cpu clamp thing-a-majig and make sure it does not contact the CPU at all.
Yeah the best would be to use your readings the your bios gives you.

if you read around its the powerboost Comcast offers and doesnt last the whole download and stops after a small amount of data is transfered and then drops back down to the normal 8 mb.
Ok well thanks for putting some light on this matter, i knew they offered boost but didnt know it would boost them up that much, i guess it would be really nice downloading 20 mb files in a blink of an eye lol

I dont see how you are running that fast when Comcast doesnt even offer those speeds
-
dont think it changed anything
-
-
Of course your upload is as fast as my download lol
-
Im not running no tweaks on my Vista and the download seems to be ok and of course my upload isnt large enough to matter lol
-
i dont have to worry about it with my wireless router is plenty of speed.
-
lol isnt that the truth lol

It's a pentium 4, with stock heatsink. piece of sh*t if you ask me, I've always had these temps. I used about a piece of rice size from the artic 5 and yeah its all set properly. Thats what you get with pentium 4's
Actually P4's run cooler then AMDs
-
my heatsink and fan for my amd athlon 64 3800+ is getting pretty bad...it shows temps of 261 for my cpu when im just surfing the web and using speedfan. any ideas on heatsinks and fans or new thermal paste that will help? and if thermal paste what kind of remover should i use for the thermal pad that is on my cpu and heatsink right now?
here is my cpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103029
thanks
starship
Right up my alley, well if your not an overclocker then just about any brand would be good for your processor just as long as its for your AMD. Actually your better off ordering your heatsink and fan from AMD just so your warranty will not void by putting on other heat sink and fans that are not approved by AMD. Would hate to burn your chip up and then out of luck becuase you used a component that wasnt AMD approved.
Most important thing is stay away from the paste. putting to much on is not good and putting to little on is not good. If your not an avid system builder then just stick with the thermal pads.

bryanlautt - how do you like Vista. I just upgraded myself and like it a lot.

I like it alot. Alot more secure and what i think is that i am really supprised that all the hackers havent exploited alot more wholes as like they did when XP first came out.
I think Microsoft are finally going on the right track after all these years, especially since they have like 90 percent of the market lol. It would be interesting how linix would do if they had 90 percent of the market and how many holes would be found. lol

How many of you know that Midcontinent and Comcast are Partners.
Comcast users compare!

Just ask VanBuren about those speeds, hes got the 100mb down and 10mb up connection in his country, that just shows that america is far behind in the speeds.
