  1. Try a speed test site a little closer to you. Speed testing half way across the North American continent is not the best.  :whaa:

Since your apparently in the Tampa FL area and the site here is in Dallas TX there's an awful lot of hops and losses along the way.

Try here... http://atl.speakeasy.net/  a couple times and post back what you get. HTH

  2. According to the DSL Reports CO tester, I'm 6420 feet from the CO. Verizon says that won't get me 3.0 right now. From your experience is this legit?

Any sugestions to speed up my connection, in hardware, software...

    Thanks

There is only one distance data base that counts in determining your speed with Verizon. That data base is... Verizon's

No online distance data base / calculator or anything else counts with them. The Verizon data base is what they use. Period.

Sometimes they can be talked into doing a MLT (Mechanized loop test) to double check their numbers. But my understanding is it's like pulling teeth to get them to do one. Call several times to double check  your availability for 3m, but after a few tries it maybe hopeless. Goodluck, hope it works out for you.

  3. sygate for me

i find zone alarm too annoying now, but b4 i thought it to be the best  :haha:

Here too. I used ZA for the longest time. Recent versions have been just awful. Tried Sygate, liked it  and use it it on my Laptop when traveling/off my network now. At home I rely on my router to keep the nasties out.

  4. I get my Fathers Day present tomorrow !!!  :D Our Daughter is moving out tomorrow as a transfer student and,  as a full Junior at University of California. Yes !!!    Her Mom and I have plans for tomorrow night !  ;) It's been a LONG 20+ years.  :haha:

  5. hehe thats funny....those ISPs cant do math o well, but is 86.7% good enough or can there be over 100%?

No Telco DSL or Telco DSL reseller gives full advertised speed.   There are overhead losses inherent that are just a fact of life. Some will "over provision" to offset some of those losses, but not all. Look my sig, click it. See, Verizon does over provision to some extent, but not enough to over come all the loses. I have "advertized" 3000/768. SBC in my experience does not over provision. Don't sweat it. Your looking good, and ready to FRAG ON !!!
  6. wait is that fastest it gonna get for me or for xyther4523? cause mines is only 76%...

Actually your at ~86%.  1301/1500=86.7% Don't let the database for various ISPs here fool you. It's a tool, not an absolute. ;)

Your on the money for 1500/384 SBC DSL. Nice ping times too.  :D

  7. i hate waiting for antivirus programs i am just going to get avast or something if this keeps screwing up       :evil3: :evil3: :evil3: :evil3: :evil3:

WoW ! A free piece of software won't update for a day because a server problem and your going to dump it.  High expectations or much better luck with Freeware than I've had.  I've tried most of the Pay and Free AVs progs and I keep coming back to AVG. YMMV

  8. Connection is:: 2821 Kbps about 2.8 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

That's 94% of advertised speed. That beats the 90% that is considered excellent by any standard I know of.. Why testmy.net says "only 86.03 % of your hosts average (verizon.net) " is beyond me.  I  pull 2800/700 day in day out on test sites that are close enough to me to be accurate.. Unless someone here knows something I don't, I'd say your doing great.
