  1. I have been having a strange problem with my DW6000 modem regarding speed and the Web Acceleration Status. The acceleration status is inactive, and even though I am browsing HTTP sites, it is making no attempt to connect and bring the status to operational. I have had this happen before, and it required a repoint of my dish to fix, but the last time, my connection didn't work hardly at all when the status was inactive. This time, the connection works, and my speed has gone from 650-700kbps to about 1Mbps. Any file download is faster; I downloaded a random software update from Apple and it had the same kb/s that testmy.net had. But, web pages seem to be loading slower, regardless of the speed increase. Uploads are the same as they were before. This happened last night and was resolved when I rebooted my modem. The same thing happened tonight around the same time. I consider it a problem since my acceleration should be operational, and web pages are loading much slower. Is anyone else having this pronlem or know what could be going on? I was thinking that it might be a good idea to leave my modem unplugged for a few hours to reset it, but I really don't know. My signal strength is 69. Any help would be appreciated. Shawn
  2. My username is an homage to Apple's old tagline "Think Different". Yep, I love my Macs. The "89" is my birth year.
  3. I'm guessing you have the DW7000 or the DW4000? If you have the DW7000 how have your experiences been? I'm considering upgrading for the increased speed and improved networking.
  4. I have had DirecWay for a little over a year now, and I have had to deal with A LOT of problems during that time, but my speeds have NEVER been this bad. For more than a week, every night, like clockwork, from around 8:30pm to 11:00pm, my download speeds drop dramatically. I go from surfing at 700Kbps - 1Mbps, to drowning anywhere below 100Kbps. The worst download speed I saw from my numerous testing was 17Kbps. I called Earthlink, who I have DirecWay through, and they've been no help at all. In fact, they've been ridiculous. Everything they've told me to do has been something I would have done way before I resort to calling tech support. Of course there was the usual, "there's nothing we can do...." and "the speeds aren't guaranteed..." I also heard my speed drops are due to the seasons changing or something on my end, such as my computers. I couldn't believe when the tech people told me that my all too consistent speed drops were because of my computers. I have several high-end Macs and all of them show the speed drops. NOTHING changes when I connect directly into the modem (DW6000), knowing for sure there are no other computers on my wireless network; (there's usually only one on at a time in the first place). I have done everything, even re-registering my modem, and nothing has worked. ANY help, suggestions, ideas, etc. would be appreciated. Is anyone else having this problem or has anyone else HAD this problem? I'm located in West Grove, PA. my longitude is 95 West (from my DW6000 Info. page), and I don't know what satellite I'm on. Sorry for the length of this post, but I wanted to make sure I included all the necessary information. - Shawn
  5. Does the speed updrade apply to everyone who has DirecWay, or only those that will have the DW7000 modem? Can the DW6000 be traded in for the DW7000? A speed upgrade would be awesome, especially for the upload. This is my first post, and I have been a DirecWay customer for over a year now.
