RaWDiZ Posted January 1, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 But I've gotta Westell WireSpeed Dsl Modem...Can that act as a router?
richcornucopia Posted January 1, 2006 CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 Then you can try 10 or 100 since your dsl probably isn't faster than 10, you dint need to use the 100 since you dint have a home network. Try both of them, do speed tests and see if one gives you better results over the other.
richcornucopia Posted January 1, 2006 CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 Do you know the model number? Try entering 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.0 in your browser and see what comes up.
FallowEarth Posted January 1, 2006 CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 Most modems use half-duplex, and are configured for 10Mbps, although some will accept 100Mbps.
richcornucopia Posted January 1, 2006 CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 Yea if your modem doubles as a router then put it in 100. Do you have multiple computers hooked up to it, do you have wireless computers?
RaWDiZ Posted January 1, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 Nope this is the only one..a desktop computer
richcornucopia Posted January 1, 2006 CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 Then you don't need to use 100, but you can just see which gives you better speeds 10 or 100.
RaWDiZ Posted January 1, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 should it be half..or..Full duplex?
richcornucopia Posted January 1, 2006 CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 Full duplex, but again if you want to experiment with what works best for you go ahead, there is no single fix for everyone to make their connections the best they can be, except for vanburen . FallowEarth Posted January 1, 2006 CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 The worst that can happen, if you set the NIC to the wrong speed or duplex, is that your Local Area Connection will tell you that you have a "Network cable unplugged." If this happens, then you know that the current settings are not supported by the modem/router.
