FallowEarth Posted January 1, 2006 CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 What are you advertised speeds? What router and adapter are you using? What tweaks have you done so far? Can you provide a traceroute from both wired and wireless connections?

FallowEarth Posted January 2, 2006 CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 Are all the speedtests shown in your first post done with the same PC? If so, it looks like your PC (at least NIC) and your connection are good. I would look into updating both the firmware for your router and the drivers for your wireless card from their respective vendor's websites. FallowEarth Posted January 2, 2006 CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 When you go wireless, you can guarantee speed loss right away.
i2d | ScruFFy | Posted January 2, 2006 CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 you are not guarentted speed loss . Where the heck did you come up with that conclusion lol.?
FallowEarth Posted January 2, 2006 CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 you are not guarentted speed loss . Where the heck did you come up with that conclusion lol.? What I mean to say is, a wired connection is faster than a wireless.
i2d | ScruFFy | Posted January 2, 2006 CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 they can be the same , what are you trying to imply.... Wireless if setup right and has minimal things that it goes through can achieve the same speeds as a wired connection.
resopalrabotnick Posted January 2, 2006 CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 if you wire the router's antenna port dierectly to the wireless cards antenna port, you minimize loss. any other way you lose speed to interference from one of the millions of little interference generators in a standard household and you also lose speed to the wireless security. unless of course you are running something like wep, in which case you migh as well set the encryption to off. x FiReMaN x Posted January 2, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 ^^ i think that might be the problem. Ill check it out. What should it be too, WPA personal or just off.
richcornucopia Posted January 2, 2006 CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 Turning wpa off will result in more speed, but less security. If you do this I would recommend turning ssid broadcast off, and use mac filtering.
x FiReMaN x Posted January 4, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 4, 2006 disabling the encryption is the only thing that works.
x FiReMaN x Posted January 4, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 4, 2006 my connection keeps on turning on and then turning off when using wireless. wireless sucks.
richcornucopia Posted January 4, 2006 CID Share Posted January 4, 2006 Have you tried different channels instead of using the default 6? There could be some interference on that channel, my wireless kept kicking clients off on channell six but when I changed it to 9 everything worked better.
