Guest chawanwat Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 Hi, this is my first time here. I dont really know about internet speed or connection that much so pardon me I just want to know if i can tweak my internet or not. Here is my test resulted. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1478 Kbps about 1.5 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Download Speed is:: 180 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Sat Jan 07 2006 23:51:36 GMT-0800 (Pacific Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 26X faster than 56K 1MB download in 5.69 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 31.06 % of your hosts average (verizon.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-HSB5TJC6I :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 390 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 48 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Sat Jan 07 2006 23:57:15 GMT-0800 (Pacific Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 7X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 21.33 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 62 % of your hosts average (verizon.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-C6KD90SFL As u can see the part that I have highlighted it was running at only 31% of my host average. Are there anyway I can tweak the internet to make it faster than my host average ?? I dont really know the advertise speed because this is my Sister internet. I using wireless and my two sisters using direct connection. O and about the patch for XP SP2 that stop the speed limite is undownloadable, so I'm out of luck, also My CPU currently Virus-Spyware free right now. Sometimes my internet speed went very low to 100~300 Kbps per sec. I think it because my sister download so many stuff at the same time, Does my guess correct ? We paying 50 $ per month right now. Which is totally out of mine for only 1.5 Mbps download speed. My friend over internet pay only 30 $ per month and get 2 Mbps download speed. My sister is the one who is the admin of the router. Are we getting a rip-off internet ?? Can somebody please solve this problems. thx for your help, and sorry for my bad english languages. FallowEarth Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 Hello, and welcome to the forum, chawanwat. No need to worry, you are forgiven for you ignorance. If you stick around long enough, you will become a master of Internet speed/connection. First stop, check out our Make It Faster sticky [LINK] and post back as much info as you can. It is important to know your advertised speeds in order to tweak your operating system properly, but if you have no means of finding out, I'm sure we can help you. Keep in mind that the host average is polled from all users of all speed packages of your ISP. Cheers, and happy tweaking.
Guest chawanwat Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 Yes I understand. About the p2p fix for SP2 why was the download link ainit work. Is it only for me ? and I have tried using cablenut from VanBuren the result is nothing different. Maybe it's because I didnt have this p2p fix for SP2 installed yet ? ok here is the information that I could gathered. 2. ISP is Verizon , Advertised speed is still NA 3. I have tried cable nut tweak allready. TCP properties for IP = *BLANK* () Browser/OS = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1. resopalrabotnick Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 the speed could be due to the fact you use wireless. is it dsl or cable?
Guest chawanwat Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 What is the difference between DSL and CABLE ? but I tried testing the speed on my Sister computer allready, They using Direct connection. Still its 1.5 MBPs.
resopalrabotnick Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 the cable from the wall to the modem, is it a thick coax type cable or does it come from a phone jack. and 1.5 may well be the speed she pays for.
Guest chawanwat Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 umm.... Well. From the Modem we connect it from the Fax machine and then from Modem to Router. My computer have the wireless card built-in, and both of my sister have the USP plug-in to the Modem. Is this what u asking for ? sry im kinda new at this stuff. Guest chawanwat Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 Still, I cant really expect to pay 50$ a month to get this amount of Download and Upload speed. It just ridiculous.
resopalrabotnick Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 ok, i see your problem. several of them, in fact. since you use a phone line, it's dsl. the connection from the fax machine sounds iffy. you need filters on all phones faxes etc. to prevent them from dirtying up the signal for the dsl. then the dsl needs to be on its own jack. and the connection from modem to pc via usb is bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. or worse. usb slows it down, use a network cable from the router to connect to the pc. and make sure security on the wireless router is enabled so the neighbor doesn't steal bandwidth. Guest chawanwat Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 What r u trying to explain is that I need to clean the thing that connect from the Fax Machine to the modem ? and having my sister both using wireless ?
Guest chawanwat Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 If u talking about using a cable to connect from the router to my PC I think that will be impossible because our computer aint in the same room and their room and my room was pretty far.
resopalrabotnick Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 no. ok, basics. dsl is a broadband tech that uses higher frequencies on the existing phone line. to have a clear transmission it is imperative that the phones faxes and whatnot in the house are conected to the phone line with a filter (that the isp should have provided) to prevent them from putting signals into the high frequency spectrum on the line. see if she has a manual from the install and some filters they left, that should tell you how to hook up the modem. and the other comp should be hooked up via ethernet to the router, not usb to the modem. (unless your modem is also a router in which case the usp plug you mentioned might not be usb but ethernet? describe the shape of the plug on the cable from the comp to the modem/router, the model and manufacturer of the modem.) Guest chawanwat Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 errrr talking about Ethernet reminds me that last time when i went on her computer. I saw her connection it was Fast Ethernet something.
Guest chawanwat Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 Does p2p think have anything to do with this problem ? Because it said that SP2 limited my internet speed isnt it ? this patch would stop that limited. Maybe that might be the cause ? Can someone that could download that p2p please Upload it somewhere.
Guest chawanwat Posted January 9, 2006 CID Share Posted January 9, 2006 O and another thing is that if i couldnt download the p2p patcher, i could change the tcpip manually right ? I did it, and i restart the computer my internet speed didnt change a bid in fact its lower. What do i have to do to get that p2p patcher ? and do i need to do it on both of my sister computers ? They both using direct connection so i dont really know which one of them is the one who really connected to the modem. They dont cooperate that much, they just use what they got. I'm very appreciate it. But Still ! I dont think my sister should really pay 50 $ for 1.5 MBPs internet.
FallowEarth Posted January 9, 2006 CID Share Posted January 9, 2006 Not sure, but I think maybe you have the 3/768. Download and install cablenut [LINK]. Then download the file I have attached and open it. It will open the cablenut adjuster window. Click save to registry, then reboot your PC and test again (make sure all firewalls and browser toolbars/extensions are off when you do). Somehow i feel laggy with it though...
Guest chawanwat Posted January 9, 2006 CID Share Posted January 9, 2006 O, and my custom build is base on MTU something 1500 and calculated by this link : http://www.j79zlr.com/cablenutXP2k.php It faster but sometimes when i download things it feels like my computer is getting slower somehow. Only Firewall that is on is my XP security firewall, and im sure that NOD32 didnt provide me Firewall either.

FallowEarth Posted January 9, 2006 CID Share Posted January 9, 2006 I'd go with the custom one the, seems to work best.
Guest chawanwat Posted January 9, 2006 CID Share Posted January 9, 2006 well is there anyway I could make it to higher than this cuz y paying 50$ a month only give me this amount of speed. Do you have any idea why i cant download the p2p patcher ?
