wyantm06 Posted January 15, 2006 CID Share Posted January 15, 2006 I am trying to install PRO and it keeps telling me I am trying to install a older version and will not let me go further on. How can I delete a partition so I can install PRO? Thanks
richcornucopia Posted January 15, 2006 CID Share Posted January 15, 2006 You could try formatting the drive, or just a single partition to erase all the data on it if you want to install pro.
TheHalf Posted January 15, 2006 CID Share Posted January 15, 2006 The fastest way. If you have an old Win98 startup disk, just use that floppy to delete the current partition. Insert the XP installation upon reboot and XP will create a new partition and reformat as FAT32 or NTFS. TheHalf
wyantm06 Posted January 15, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 15, 2006 Say I want to run the disc through the run function. What do I type in it to run the disc? Thanks
TheHalf Posted January 15, 2006 CID Share Posted January 15, 2006 If you are refering to using the run command from Windows to reformat a drive partition, better to use the management tool this way. Right click My Computer icon->click on manage->then in the left pane, click on disk management. There you can delete a partition, reformat, set allocation size, but you can't do it on the drive your booted in. There you need to shut down Windows and use the utilities from the XP Installation CD. TheHalf
synflood Posted January 15, 2006 CID Share Posted January 15, 2006 I agree with Half, either that or use something like Partition Magic it works really well if you plan on doing a dual boot system and you already have 1 O/S loaded.
Swimmer Posted January 15, 2006 CID Share Posted January 15, 2006 You can do all of this from the administrative tools section of windows XP.. You can delete the partition then assign the space to a new drive or add space to an existing drive.. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=309000 compmgmt.msc But Partition magic would most likely be easier to use..
