2smart4u Posted December 30, 2004 Author CID Share Posted December 30, 2004 ok van i give up, my settings i guess were temporary, my speeds keep droping, wat do u suggest, and have in mind that my computer isn't a pentium 4 its a pentium 1 and it has1.69ghz and 348 mb of ram, but my laptop is a pentium 4, and what about my router do i have to fix that 2 or what?? anywayz help me please, and the screenshot is a tcp/ip analyzer i took, it says the mtu is 1460 but i check my registry and it says 1500, do u know why it says that??? VanBuren Posted December 30, 2004 CID Share Posted December 30, 2004 I dont know what MTU DW 6000 use, but my guess is 1500 and that you have forced your MTU to 1460 in the registry. If you have been using TCP optimizer, it change the MTU in your NIC (i dont know the registry key) and if you use cablenut it force the MSS to a certain value Mixing these two, and dont know what your doing can cause MTU conflicts. Did you do a registry backup when installing TCP optimizer? If so, restore registry also click delete cablenut tweaks + reboot now run this http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks copy result URL adress and paste it here so we can see it VanBuren

VanBuren Posted December 30, 2004 CID Share Posted December 30, 2004 yes it will, you need to reinstall win XP, cos your registry is messed up. I ask you again, did you or did you not follow the steps above? VanBuren
2smart4u Posted December 30, 2004 Author CID Share Posted December 30, 2004 yes i did follow your instructions, when it formats the c: drive doing this is like reinstalling win xp, or do i still have to use the win xp cd and do it from there. or is it easier formatting or what is better, whats the diff between the two??? The easyest way is to change boot sequense so you can boot from cdrom, you have to do it in BIOS. When you start your pc, hold down del (delete) key and then you come to BIOS, search for boot sequense and change first boot device from floppy to cdrom, then click save, (in my bios F10) and exit, now make sure you have xp cd in your cdrom and follow instructions. EDIT: when the install has come to the point where it ask what partition you like to install it on choose to delete c: first, then choose make a new partition in unpartioned space, that will format the c: before you install it. good luck VanBuren

whiteolorin Posted December 30, 2004 CID Share Posted December 30, 2004 Don't go by anything the tweak tester says on broadbandreports.com if you use sattelite. It's giving the results from a server at the NOC, not your computer.

Oh then you probl dont have a screwed registry after all But that NOC pc seems to have some very strange setup... alteast you do know you have windows default settings now after the format, and dont tweak it again, if all is depending on the NOC setup your windows settings will be just fine. VanBuren Posted December 31, 2004 CID Share Posted December 31, 2004 Very nice If you open adjuster and in top left corener click file, save custom settings file, you can save that current setup and upload it here so other DW 6000 users also can test it.
