dlewis23 Posted August 27, 2006 CID Share Posted August 27, 2006 panchovilla you need to be using a larger test file. try this one, but clear your cache before you test. http://www.testmy.net/dl-2992
jar57 Posted August 27, 2006 CID Share Posted August 27, 2006 Being new to satellite and out in the boonies I am wondering if the speed we are getting is reasonable. tommie gorman Posted August 28, 2006 CID Share Posted August 28, 2006 Welcome to the forum jar57 I would say you are a little slow, it should be around 900-1000 normally on download. Try cleaning out your temp files also. "Reply #27"^^ up a couple of posts. panchovilla here is something to read and check out. In fact you might both read it. "Achieve the Best Performance Out of Your Computer" Just click on the link: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-4257 Then if you both would post a 2992 file test http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/d_load.php where it says "Largest - 2992 kB" and post your scores. Then we will work on tweaking your connection.
jar57 Posted August 28, 2006 CID Share Posted August 28, 2006 Thanks for the referral to ways to increase performance. I am doing most, but there are a few suggestions I will put into place, plus I like the recommended schedule. Cleaning cookies have always been a problem as I would just search and delete. This is much cleaner. I have an old call into tech support for a service tomorrow, but thinking to cancel it as I doubt he can improve over what we have done. Repointing the dish has moved me from 39 to 60-69. Still need to check the slow downs (heavy user time?) to see where what happens. On September 16 my 30 days are up, so need to make a decision. I really want this to work, not to mention the loss of several hundred dollars. Thanks again.

Can anyone enlighten me? P.S. The first two back to back tests on speakeasy this morning were: 1355/778 and 1470/
tommie gorman Posted August 28, 2006 CID Share Posted August 28, 2006 panchovilla I would have to say that TMN tests are more accurate. But they are usually pretty close in speeds. Did you clean out your computer real good? jar57 if your comp is clean you might try this: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1703 Use the attachment at the top of the pic, it has premade settings to set your connection a little better. Follow the directions carefully. It is a TCP Optimizer. Some it works for some it does not. Don't forget to back up your "present file". < As you may want to go back to present settings. It works for me and some others.
