tonyslaughter Posted April 8, 2006 CID Share Posted April 8, 2006 hi all i just had a quick question..i have Earthlink cable 6000/512..i usually run around 8m down using speakeasy and 7m using myspeed..on this site i was getting about 6.5 down..uploads run about 475k,,i have win xp..ive cleaned the registry using ccleaner.i check for viruses, spyware and etc daily.i ran the speedguide optimizer and now in getting 4m download at best..oh and the higher speeds were done throughout the day..the lower speed is right now..my question is should i do a system restore to put my system back the way it was or if the problem might fix itself? PLZ ANY INPUT IS WELCOMED BECAUSE IM AT A LOSS
tommie gorman Posted April 8, 2006 CID Share Posted April 8, 2006 Welcome to the forum tonyslaughter. I run the Optimizer because it works best on my comp. But my suggestion for you in this forum would be to do a system restore and get cable-nut. Because you will get a lot of help form this forum on cable-nut. And don't forget to wait 2 to three days for full effects before changing optimizer or cable-nut settings. How long have you had Optimizer installed? Also post a speed test. tommie gorman Posted April 8, 2006 CID Share Posted April 8, 2006 To be honest, this might be a little out of my league. Fallow Earth could probably help you a little better. He will probably have you run a tracert route, if you know how to do that. Good luck. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. He will probably be here a little later. j3grizz Posted April 8, 2006 CID Share Posted April 8, 2006 I agree with Tommie. You can tweak more with cablenut and you will pick up a lot of knowledge here. I suggest also to download a large file from the net and see what your real download speed is, then compare it with your speed tests. Most of the tests I run aren't as accurate as testmy.net when comparing to actual download speeds. Check out this sticky. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097 Welcome to the forum and good luck! j3grizz Posted April 8, 2006 CID Share Posted April 8, 2006 Just me, but I would x-out the personal ip address when posting ping and trace routes. Everyone, not just members can see this. Of course there isn't anyone crooked on the net right.

FallowEarth Posted April 8, 2006 CID Share Posted April 8, 2006 Hey tonyslaughter. First of all, it is important to understand that you should not use both Optimizer and Cablenut. I can help you with cablenut, so this is what I would suggest. First clear all values in Optimizer, save and reboot. Then open the file in the zip I have attached, save to registry and reboot. Have you run ccleaner? Tried the scan at www.ewido.net ? Your trace looks good. It is most likely that software running on your PC is slowing you down. Things that can do this are: firewall, antivirus, antispyware, browser extensions/toolbars, popup blockers. My suggestion is to shut all these down while you are testing. Also, have you tried testing from a mirror closer to you? As it was suggested above, testing with a larger file increases accuracy on a connection such as yours. Hope this helps some. Holla back with questions.
