I've tried everything to increase my speed, but running Spybot only caused a 2 kB/s drop. Any ideas? I'm sorry if these seems like a dumb question but I really can't figure it out. FallowEarth Posted April 20, 2006 CID Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hey panthersgem, welcome to the TMN forum. Looks like increasing your RWIN (default receive window) to open up your connection a bit. Cablenut is your answer for that. Check this out: http://www.testmy.net/topic-1013 RWIN limits the amount of data your computer will be allowed to receive at a time. If it is set too low, then you aren't going to see your advertised speeds, and you do not have an optimized connection. As tommie gordon asks, what are your advertised speeds? Also, we have some test mirrors spread out all over the place. Try testing from a couple of different ones close to you. http://www.testmy.net/tools/mirrors.php
panthersgem Posted April 20, 2006 Author CID Share Posted April 20, 2006 My provider is AT&T Yahoo!, and to be honest I don't know the advertised speeds, just "fast". I tried to find out for my area, but according to their website "Sorry, [my number] cannot be found in our records. AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet may not be available in your area at this time, and it is not available outside of SBC's service areas. It is not available to non-working or disconnected telephone numbers, or to cellular telephone numbers." Obviously it IS available considering I'm currently using them. I tried Cablenut, but it had no effect. According to the mirror closest to me: :::.. You need to contact your ISP and ask them how many feet from the CO you are....my hunch is you are right on the fringe of their coverage. Get that info and post the results back...from there we can look elsewhere if needed.
tommie gorman Posted April 20, 2006 CID Share Posted April 20, 2006 How long have you had cablenut installed? Sometimes it takes a three days to kick in fully. Are you Virus and Spyware clean? Have you defragged lately? Have you done disk cleanup? Are you running a registry cleaner? Is Spybot your only Anti Spyware cleaner?
