ghostmaster Posted April 24, 2006 CID Share Posted April 24, 2006 When you have to cycle a satellite (mainly direcway) modem, it's usually for 1 of 2 reasons. One, to discharge static, and 2, to reconnect to the web acceleration servers at the NOC, which usually resolves "page cannot be displayed" erros and broken images. And the same applies to cable modems: if the modem is grounded properly, then it likely wouldn't be flapping, having insertion failures, or making constant power adjustments. It would remain online and function normally, as it is designed to do. A modem which is not grounded properly may cause a buildup of static electricity which will cause it to function irratically or improperly.
