insideout Posted May 1, 2006 CID Share Posted May 1, 2006 I already set up a LAN network a long time ago. I had norton internet security but the subscription ran out so i was kind of lazy and didnt want to resubscribe it to it yet. I just resubscribed and then when i restarted my computer, my network was gone. I could not see my brother's computer on my computer. I connected both computers with a gateway from Verizon. How can I fix this? i tried making a new network but it doesn't work. The network does not show up
richcornucopia Posted May 1, 2006 CID Share Posted May 1, 2006 Try disabling norton firewall.
Swimmer Posted May 1, 2006 CID Share Posted May 1, 2006 yeah.. it is norton.. I just help someone else deal with this.. you are going to have to write a rule that the local IP of those computers are trusted.. that should take care of the problem. insideout Posted May 2, 2006 Author CID Share Posted May 2, 2006 alright thanks i did that and the network works...but only for me. My brother cannot access my computer's shared files; it says that it is not accessible or there is no permission granted. How do I grant him access to my network? richcornucopia Posted May 2, 2006 CID Share Posted May 2, 2006 Like swimmer said you want to make a rule for his ip that will grant access. Does your brother have a firewall running too?
Swimmer Posted May 2, 2006 CID Share Posted May 2, 2006 This is another one of those problems.. like rich said check firewall.. if you are prompted for a password.. try the default one.. I think you can set up an account to log other computer on to that computer. Something about Windows XP pro vs. Home vs Ever other edition of windows. what versions are you using? I'm using XP media center on mine and Xp home on the other. My brother's doesn't have a firewall besides windows firewall; should i install one so that he can make the adjustment to allow the ip address? Swimmer Posted May 6, 2006 CID Share Posted May 6, 2006 I would install a firewall! windows firewall isnt a real firewall.. if i remember correctly it only scan incoming traffic.. so anything that is already on your computer and has internet access get free reign.. like spyware..
