gotmilk Posted May 24, 2006 CID Share Posted May 24, 2006 I'm so frustrated with my ISP. I'm on their 3/256 package, and up until the last couple of weeks, I never got below 2995 Kbps on a speed test. Then I started getting speed tests in the mid-low 2900s. Now I'm getting this crap. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2346 Kbps about 2.35 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 286 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net '>https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/05/24 - 4:19pm Bottom Line:: 41X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 3.58 sec Tested from a 12160 kB file and took 42.469 seconds to complete Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3 Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 82.4 % of your hosts average (conwaycorp.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-TCZLSRI2U'>https://testmy.net/stats/id-TCZLSRI2U I know it's not testmy.net causing the problem, I got the same results with the speakeasy speed test. Here's an average test from before this started happening: :::.. water Posted May 30, 2006 CID Share Posted May 30, 2006 after you have done everything dlewis says, call them up and tell them you need more bandwidth. THey have to provide you with (depending on the provider) at least 75% of what they advertise tell them you want every bit no pun intended *snickers*
gotmilk Posted May 31, 2006 Author CID Share Posted May 31, 2006 Wow, I didn't know cleaning out the cache could even make a difference! Thanks! :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2965 Kbps about 2.97 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 362 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/05/31 - 10:28am Bottom Line:: 52X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 2.83 sec Tested from a 12160 kB file and took 33.594 seconds to complete Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3 Diagnosis: Looks Great : 4.25 % faster than the average for host (conwaycorp.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9261NPI8D I still would like that last 35 Kbps that I used to get, though. I'll keep working on it. By the way, I don't use tweaks, they make my connection slower.
gotmilk Posted June 5, 2006 Author CID Share Posted June 5, 2006 Sorry for the double post, but I feel this needs its own post. I thought cleaning the cache helped, but it didn't. Here's are two tests from yesterday. 04 Jun 2006 Download 2185 1496 kB 221412130861 gotmilk conwaycorp.net F90SYC1ZU 04 Jun 2006 Download 2269 12160 kB 221412130861 gotmilk conwaycorp.net PIXR2TQNG I took these tests after playing on Xbox Connect. I was playing Halo 1, and every single game I joined was laggy, so I thought it was probably my connection, and it was. It seems like this drop in speeds is only happening once in a while, but when it happens, I experience packet loss. Back when my ISP only provided 2/128, I didn't lag that much on XBC, because it was stable. I would call my ISP, but my mom won't let me, and I don't want to ruin anything by calling while she's not home. If I did call, they probably wouldn't listen to me anyway. Here is a test from just a few minutes ago. It's OK now, but I guarantee it will go back down. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2908 Kbps about 2.91 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 355 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/06/05 - 11:01am Bottom Line:: 51X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 2.88 sec Tested from a 12160 kB file and took 34.25 seconds to complete Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 Diagnosis: Looks Great : 1.96 % faster than the average for host (conwaycorp.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-4N1RPADLQ And now even my upload speeds are lower than they've ever been. :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 252 Kbps about 0.25 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Upload Speed is:: 31 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/06/05 - 11:02am Bottom Line:: 4X faster than 56K 1MB Upload in 33.03 sec Tested from a 1013 kB file and took 32.92512 seconds to complete Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 Diagnosis: Looks Great : 16.67 % faster than the average for host (conwaycorp.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-FMXY972SZ
amc11890 Posted June 5, 2006 CID Share Posted June 5, 2006 well since it is cable it is not always going to be stable(shared connection)
gotmilk Posted June 7, 2006 Author CID Share Posted June 7, 2006 It's always been stable in the past. It used to be one of the most stable connections I'd ever seen. EDIT: I've been trying to get my mom to switch to AT&T DSL and get their 6/608 service with no luck yet, but my interpretations of her reactions say "not now, but maybe later." There's hope. spider0526 Posted June 8, 2006 CID Share Posted June 8, 2006 try checking your cable wire. I use Mediacom and I was getting real crappy speeds until I replaced my cable wire and rebooted my box.
