CTo Posted July 4, 2006 CID Share Posted July 4, 2006 Before I upgraded, I had the Basic package with advertised speeds of 384/384. Some of you may have not heard of this package before since it is a "grand-daddy" package and it is no longer offered. I was paying $26.99 a month for this and have been using it for about 2.5 years. Clearly I have paying too much for such a speed so I decided to call SBC. I was advised to upgrade online at www.att.com/upgrade. I chose the lowest package that is offered right now -- the Express package with advertised speeds of 1.5 dl / 384 ul. It's a promotion called the "loyal customer upgrade"? Anyway it has been 4 days since I upgraded and I am only receiving 81 kB/s download. My upload seems about right at 40 kB/s. I'm not even getting half of the advertised max! However I do realize that this falls in the 384 - 1.5 DL range. Upsetting... BUT here's something that confuses me. I go to http://192.168.0.1/ and it shows that I am ONLY connected at 768 Kbps (downstream)!! If I dl at 81 kB/s, it seems allright if my max really is 768 Kbps! Can somebody help me? Much appreciated.
loki123 Posted July 4, 2006 CID Share Posted July 4, 2006 Give a call to your ISP, there is nothing (that Im aware of) that you can do from your modem about it, they probably messed up while upgrading you. Happend once to me.
tommie gorman Posted July 4, 2006 CID Share Posted July 4, 2006 Welcome to the forum CTo. Could you post a speed test, so we can see the difference as you fix it?

My dl speeds have increased dramatically, but it is jumpy still... After completing over 5 tests, I noticed that it can range from 155-170 kB/s. I guess I still have to let it settle? I'm happy still.
