NoShow Posted January 15, 2005 CID Share Posted January 15, 2005 I was just thinking that if maybe you can change it from Fat32 to NTFS then maybe it would decompress like that. I don't really know but it was a thought. My main drive is NTFS and the other one is a Fat32 and the NTFS is the one that's NOT compressed. My Fat32 drive is compressed so maybe if you change it that will decompress it.

The Reverend Posted January 15, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 15, 2005 I have checked and rechecked. Looks like once an NTFS Drive is compressed that box disappears and it cannot be uncompressed unless you reformat. But the good new is that in this case you don't have to turn off something that does not exist. NTSF cannot index compressed files anyway ....so even though the service was on it was just wasting CPU cycles ALL THE TIME! I learned something! TY! rotoruda Posted January 15, 2005 CID Share Posted January 15, 2005 Gotta hand it to you guys ..... I changed those settings in the "SERVICES" section (Indexing and Messenger) both to "disable" and I can't believe how much faster my programs EXPLODE open instead of the feet dragging drudgery I hace experienced in the past. The Reverend Posted January 15, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 15, 2005 That is right NoShow ....and confirmed thrice. But, it doesn't mean that you can't turn it off anyway ...it is just the biggest waster of resources, even more so if you are running compressed drives. (And ..compressed drives cannot be indexed, so the "CheckBox" disappears..... The Reverend
The Reverend Posted January 16, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 Yep! That helps for sure. Compressed drives cannot be Indexed, so if you do NOT have the "box", all you need to do is Disable Indexing and you'll be fine.
