tommie gorman Posted November 15, 2006 CID Share Posted November 15, 2006 First of all that is satelite, right?? If so the speeds are much better than what Hughes net get right now. But as far as getting over advertised speeds, they are a little short. I wish we had 3000/750. But at the same time I am on a 500/50 hughes and get aroud 1500/50 on mine. Have you tried the tweaking it yet? You might do better. CamaroGuy have you read Achieve the Best Performance Out of Your Computer? http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-4257 It should help. And if you are on sat. make sure you are grounded properly. Also try testing directly with the 2992 file test for D/L, it will give better speeds. jlmartin Posted November 15, 2006 CID Share Posted November 15, 2006 Hi guy's. This is my first post. I'm new with xplornet since 2 weeks and i have the 512/128 package. I get a good speed only in the morning (around 500kbps before 9:00am). After that, speed decrease, decrease, decrease until 90 kbps/download. I called xplornet several time, talk to "level 2" but nothing change. I'm very disappointed and unhappy because the only way to get high speed in my area is satellite. I just wonder if some of you experienced speed problems with xplornet ?. I think i will ask a refund before my 30 days trial ends up. tommie gorman Posted November 16, 2006 CID Share Posted November 16, 2006 CamaroGuy, clean out your cache (temporary files) Top of browser*Tools*Internet Options*Delete Files including Offline Content*OK*OK*test now. Welcome to the forum jlmartin You might try cleaning it up and tweaking it before you give up first. Try reading here first and post a speed test, it will show any improvement and necessary changes or time of day. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-4257 By the way, I have a 500/50 satelite dway, and I get 1500/50 sometimes. And those are some pretty nice speeds there pbicp, still puts my sat to shame. But I give it milk every day, so it might grow up someday. tommie gorman Posted November 16, 2006 CID Share Posted November 16, 2006 Norton, is a resource hog. That is part of your speed slowness. Might I suggest AVG Free, or Avast. AVG shows no apparent slow downs at all. Now Spybot and Ewido are great, might I also suggest using Windows Defender. Another good one. Also do you clean out your cache (temporary files) before testing? Also try testing with the "2992 file" test instead of using the Smart test. It will show more accurate speeds. tommie gorman Posted November 21, 2006 CID Share Posted November 21, 2006 That is faster than dial-up Hendrik Schipper. What do you pay for that in $$? That is a little higher CamaroGuy, but I would hate to think I am still only getting 1/2 of what I was paying for. Try testing at a different time of day. Say early in the morning as possible. Anything after midnight and before 10:00 AM TMN forum time. jlmartin did you ever get any closer to your speeds?
Hendrik Schipper Posted November 21, 2006 CID Share Posted November 21, 2006 That is faster than dial-up Hendrik Schipper. What do you pay for that in $$ the problem is: when I want speed I have to live at night, downspeed is at night 2800 kbps also early in the morning. so, I think, that the problem is at the xplornet end. they (xplornet) told me last Friday, they have sent the problem to a level 3 technician, what that means I don't know, but I hope soon they give me the speed what I pay for, it is the Small Bizz Wireless, a lot of $$$$ Tommie
