StreetRacerRicehunter Posted December 17, 2006 CID Share Posted December 17, 2006 well i moved to a new part of town where even the cable guy said "alota people around here got comcast" when he came to hook me up. i also built a semi nice pc kinda budget for now but....soon upgrades anyhow please u guys r the best i know it ive already done all the updates latest browsers, net framework etc etc. pc is 2 weeks old has NOT a spyware virus trojan nothing! got spybot,adaware,xclean,kaspersky n good firewals. m also behind a router but it costs me vituraly no speed, ive done intensive testing. when the cable guy first came over he starting runing like a comcast downloader app and he said i was moving 6 megs, 6 seconds later a guy says sumthing in jiberish over the walietakie and then he said "o so i didnt even need to run this" after the net was live he went to all kinds of test sites and i had a max average of 4.2 megs down, i looked through sum obvios setting optimizing for throughput got all the latest stuff and instaled kaspersky and testmy said i now had 4.4megs down. and now this has been my average all day :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Upload Connection is:: 352 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 43 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/12/16 - 8:50pm Bottom Line:: 6X faster than 56K 1MB Upload in 23.81 sec Tested from a 579 kB file and took 13.469 seconds to complete Upload Diagnosis:: May need help : running at only 82.44 % of your hosts average (comcast.net) U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-QT6R8HAUG User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727) [!] i mean at my other house i could tip the scale over 1 meg up, wtf is this shit this is horrible even dsl can beat this crap. and down i was averaging 8.2 megs on a celeron based pos minitower, i did have the speed pass or the speed tier as they now say "2 more megs down" i wont now for the next 2 months to utualize on a special they got but anyway... now i got a built system budget but with wide expansion possibilities gigabyte s2-g board 1 gig 128bit dual channel (667mhz <-i think) pc 5200<-again im pretty shure ..memory 1.6 sempron 64 bit..for now 1 80 gig sata n stock viedo for now im using the boards eithernet connection, going through cat6 "haha overkill" lines to my old linksys router and finally a motorola sb5101 modem. as far as the leingth of the coxial line to the power line tie in id say its between 50 and 90 feet. and last when the cable guy was testing the frequency's and db's the modem was reciving i think everything was just right over the minimiums for it to work "correctly" as he said and he also said that maxing this out wont nessaraly make the connection any faster...........he prolly got his g.e.d. to but w/e -anyhow hope this helps -im gona try to dig up the frequency stuff for u guys.. toast6977 Posted December 17, 2006 CID Share Posted December 17, 2006 I may have read too fast and just missed it, but have you tried bypassing your router for testing purposes? See if your speeds are severely better without the router... If not, then no harm done... Just a thought. In the long run that probably won't help anyhow, since obviously if your behind a router you can stay just connected directly to the modem, but that would at least help out with tracking down speed issues.
