Xx Mazza xX Posted June 26, 2007 CID Share Posted June 26, 2007 I was having trouble with connecting to my wireless router, uninstalled the driver for the network card, tried to rollback to a previous version, failed, so I downloaded a new driver from the hp website. Still having trouble connecting. Thanks. - Linksys wireless-g broadband router WRT54G - Laptop HP dv8315nr Windows XP Media Center - Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN
Swimmer Posted June 26, 2007 CID Share Posted June 26, 2007 What exactly are you having issues with? Getting an IP address or seeing the network?
Xx Mazza xX Posted June 27, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 IP address.
cmoore2004 Posted June 27, 2007 CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 Reset the router to factory defaults, see if you can get a connection. Perhaps DHCP is just disabled or maybe the DHCP client on the local PC is disabled.
Xx Mazza xX Posted June 27, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 both are enabled, what I really need though is the most recent driver for this network card. Thanks.

Blunted 2 Posted June 27, 2007 CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 Do you have a reinstall cd for your laptop ? If you do try going to update the driver and have it search the cd for drivers.

Blunted 2 Posted June 27, 2007 CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 Go to the device manager and right click on the adapter and click properties then update driver and search the CD for it.

If it is an ip problem I would also check your setting for the encryption and make sure that the key is correct on the computer.
cmoore2004 Posted June 27, 2007 CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 http://ping.inexistent.us/UNKNOWNDEVICES.zip Download that off of my server (you can search around the 'net for the newer version if you don't trust me) and give us the exact details of the model number. It'll have a vendor number and a device number.
Swimmer Posted June 27, 2007 CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 The problem with programs like that are some of the drivers will not work from the manufactures.. One example is on my new laptop. It has the x3100 graphics from Intel.. I tried to download the latest drivers directly from Intel. However, the laptop isn't supported. I would try to stick with the manufacture if at all possible as there is a chance that the drivers will not work.
cmoore2004 Posted June 27, 2007 CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 There's no problem with the program like that. First things first... you can't even get the drivers directly from Broadcom. I have quite a bit of experience with the Broadcom chips under several different operating systems and manufacturers, and can assure you the program is not "problematic". It merely provides information. Knowing how to use it is the key.
ghostmaster Posted June 27, 2007 CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 Is the thing just not seeing the network at all? When you look at the device manager, does it list the wireless device with no warnings? If so, I would suspect a configuration error, and not necessarily the driver. and I hate HPs recovery CDs. Why cant they just give you a driver CD, instead of burying the driver files within sub directories of subdirectories on recovery disks.... Swimmer Posted June 27, 2007 CID Share Posted June 27, 2007 First things first... you can't even get the drivers directly from Broadcom. You can download drivers from broadcom.. Wireless support is through manufactures.. http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/downloaddrivers.php I am not sure how this program is any more helpful than Device Manager.. cmoore2004 Posted June 28, 2007 CID Share Posted June 28, 2007 Great. Now show me the wireless drivers download section. I'm not asking you to be sure, I'm trying to help the OP.
Swimmer Posted June 28, 2007 CID Share Posted June 28, 2007 They dont offer download off their site directly... As they want you to use the manufacture's drivers that have been tested on their platfom. Seeing as they produce ICs not retail products... However, they do offer a development driver series, that with a quick search of google, can be had and used. The last update that I saw, that was whql certified, was from December 4th, 2006. http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWORK-CARD/OTHER-NETWORK-CARDS/Broadcom-Wireless-802-11a-b-g-n-Driver-4100155-whql.shtml

Xx Mazza xX Posted June 28, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 28, 2007 Sorry one more thing, when I restored the router to factory settings, the linksys router showed up in range and tried to connect acquiring IP address it still gave me the "limited or no connectivity". DHCP is enabled and the local IP address is 192.168.x.x starting IP address is 192.168.x.xxx, the network card's IP is 169.254.xxx.xxx

Swimmer Posted June 28, 2007 CID Share Posted June 28, 2007 169.xxx.xxx.xxx is an error address.. Try the repair function located in the properties window of the wireless card.

Swimmer Posted July 2, 2007 CID Share Posted July 2, 2007 Still not able to connect.. You have any encryption on the network? If you do turn it off and see if you can connect.. Also MAC address filtering.
