FallowEarth Posted August 24, 2007 CID Share Posted August 24, 2007 GIXXERGUY6 That definitely needs some work. It's most often something that can be pinpointed and fixed. The trouble is, it could be one of many different things, or any combination of different things. I recommend starting here, because it's a great guide: http://www.testmy.net/t-2097 Post back as much as you can. We can start there. GIXXERGUY6 Posted August 24, 2007 Author CID Share Posted August 24, 2007 well see it doesn't matter what computer i use. either desk or lap, desk direct to modem, or desk and lap through router speeds still the same. now however I am getting pretty good speeds with the desktop turned off and just using the lap through the router wireless... i just tested and got 12k with the 12k file. but upload still sucks..only 768 or so. i did just about everything on that list to the desktop and nothing helped. found the ports but can't close them up....neeed help guys. seen the same ports active when the desk was up, but now there are no ports open. FallowEarth Posted August 24, 2007 CID Share Posted August 24, 2007 Open ports shouldn't matter much, unless they are in use. A firewall can close them down, but may reduce speeds. Check out netstat if you're worried about your ports: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/netstat.mspx
