Stank_Ho Posted February 6, 2005 CID Share Posted February 6, 2005 Looking at his DLS results, is he "not pingable" due to a firewall or something like that being on? Would a firewall affect his dl test that much though? Do I sound like I know what I'm talking about?

Would a firewall affect his dl test that much though? Do I sound like I know what I'm talking about? some firewalls can slow down alot but i never seen or heard anyone go from 2 Mbps to 134 Kbps he must be losing packets, but since he dosent post any results, but a tracert i cant help him VanBuren
Stank_Ho Posted February 6, 2005 CID Share Posted February 6, 2005 Wow!! Thats a bit extreme. Hell, I've run speed tests here and half the time left ZA on. It doesn't appear to have any affect though. My speeds are pretty much identical with it on/off. That tweek test at DSL can't verify my ping stability with it on. It also can't detect my TTL, but still it doesn't affect my speed test either way. I guess Zone Alarm sucks.
VanBuren Posted February 6, 2005 CID Share Posted February 6, 2005 ZoneAlarm had problems with speed drops, i do not know if they are resolved by now, cos i have seen ppl here with no problems using ZA. anyways if you tryed all possible things fixing a connection, and you have ZA installed, i would uninstall it and compare speed. MICROWAVE Posted February 6, 2005 CID Share Posted February 6, 2005 Yeah Z.A. runs great 4me while not affecting my speeds at all. I had a paid version of McAfee (latest greatest) and it slowed down my speed testing by 1000Kbps, even after reinstalling a few times it was an issue that couldn't be resolved so I removed Mac and installed Zone Alarm and have been getting great speeds..... so I guess you don't always get what ya pay 4.......
