cmarkmyers Posted February 17, 2005 CID Share Posted February 17, 2005 I feel your pain My Verizon DSL is abysmal. I am actually on hold with them now hoping they will tell me there is something they can do. If not, I will reinstall Windows XP, set everything back to normal, and try the tweaks here. But even if all of that can only double my upload speed then I am switching to Cable modem. Out of curiousity, where abouts do you live? I am in Richmond, VA, and wonder if Verizon is this bad everywhere. For the record

cmarkmyers Posted February 18, 2005 CID Share Posted February 18, 2005 After a lengthy (90-minute) phone call to Verizon I was able to clear up my problem: Long story short: A year ago I contacted Verizon to downgrade my service to a cheaper plan. Coincidently, they were in the process of upgrading their basic plans so their new basic plan (1.5 / 384) was going to be about the same as my old premium account. Well, somehow there was a mix-up. I do not know if it was due to my call, the conversion they were going through, or something else entirely, but apparently when they made changes to my service they set me up in billing as a 1.5 / 384 customer, but technically they had me

cmarkmyers Posted February 18, 2005 CID Share Posted February 18, 2005 Yes, well... On the plus side, I am at around 90% of there 768/128 plan, so hopefully that is a good sign that I will be at 90% of their 1.5/384 plan
daysbtween Posted February 18, 2005 CID Share Posted February 18, 2005 Misery loves company .........I called verizon yesterday to inquire about moving up to 3.0 MPS service. I had put a order in a month ago and when asked they said the work order had been executed and I did have faster service. I called again later in the day and when i asked why I cant see the speed increase they sent me to billing?????? I come to find out that with another year commitment they would set me up with the faster service and send me the new dsl router/modem asap. So im thinkin if your contract isnt close to being up they dont want to upgrade you for free. Just my two cents....now that this has happened im much, much faster.... 2005-02-18 07:42:56 EST: 2529 / 689 Your download speed : 2590199 bps, or 2529 kbps. A 316.1 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 705978 bps, or 689 kbps.
cmarkmyers Posted February 18, 2005 CID Share Posted February 18, 2005 Well luckily they don't have yearly contracts here, although I am sure it is just a matter of time. But I too got quite a bit of a run around between Billing and Tech Support. Very frustrating!
daysbtween Posted February 19, 2005 CID Share Posted February 19, 2005 I have a question for VanBurean I guess, I have a westell 2200 moden from verizon, they sent me a Versalink 327W router/modem. Can my westell 200 provide the 3.0 service for me or do I have to install the new Versalink to get the faster bandwidth? indygo18 Posted February 20, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 20, 2005 I just spoke with a Veriuzon representitive, after removing CableNut adjustments. The representitive ran some line tests from their end, while she had me run some speed tests on my end. After initializing my modem and rebooting my pc, the results came back 1300 download and 150 upload, which according to Verizon is "very good" considering that my max download available is 1500. Verizon was quick to decline any "NY Metro" type plans in my area, unless I wanted to fork over some more cash, The idea of buying more speed is appealing, but not if I can do so by tweaking. VanBuren Posted February 21, 2005 CID Share Posted February 21, 2005 dern, this was odd, i suggest you delete all tweaks and let tech from your ISP bring up your speed open dr.Tcp and where you see MTU, use delete and erase the value 1492 so the field is blank, click apply now open cablenut and click delete cablenut tweaks and click save to registry now reboot post again when your ISP has fixed your speed, atleast your upload, im almost sure it suppose to be 384 Kbps also powercycle your router and modem for 30 full seconds good luck VanBuren
