mrgymbeaux Posted February 16, 2005 CID Share Posted February 16, 2005 New here - be gentle. I just hooked up Verizon Voicewing...and had 3-way call problems... other parties had 8-sec delays in speech to each other. Called Verizon VW and they told me to test my Verizon DSL service using this site. Results were sad... 1-star at best, with download speed of 638/94 and upload speed of 73/11. The rating was 30% of my Verizon DSL average...??? I called Verizon DSL service and they suggested a test of "infospeed.verizon.net" and the results were 721/90.1... and they said that was just "Fine." Given this site test says I am at 30% possible for my DSL service, what's up? I do NOT qualify for the upgraded 3.0 Verizon DSL... too far away from the loop. Is there anything I can do to improve my test results? I am in awe of the speeds I see posted here... how do ya'll do that? JBo

mrgymbeaux Posted February 16, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 16, 2005 Thanks for the reply, Van Buren. I opened that link and am not sure what the "fix" for SP2 is. I do have SP2 on my laptop, running XP Pro, and my PC is on XP Home, and my iMac is on X10. Let me deal with the Laptop for the moment. Is that link at the bottom of the link to which you referenced the "fix"...to which you refer? Will that open me up to more computer tomfoolery? Before I do it, just explain what it does for my system. Thanks. JBo
VanBuren Posted February 16, 2005 CID Share Posted February 16, 2005 quote from https://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1497 "Windws XP SP2 introduces a few new twists to TCP/IP in order to babysit users and "reduce the threat" of worms spreading fast without control. In one such attempt, the devs seem to have limited the number of possible TCP connection attempts per second to 10 (from unlimited in SP1). This argumentative feature can possibly affect server and P2P programs that need to open many outbound connections at the same time."
