Got 2 nic card in comp and need help!!!!

ya i got 2 nic caeds in my computer and one internet connectiom, so i want to turn my computer into a router and use it to monitor exact bandwith that is being used at a time

are there any programs i need or do i need to get a certain firewall?

any help would be great

Speeds look pretty formidable... Are you on cable?  What level service?

As far as being a router, if you are using WinXP as the host system, simply goto the lan connection properties for the internet connection and turn on ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).  This will do NAT translation for the other computers in the network.  I personally suggest a cable router, since they tend to be more "Set and Forget" then the ICS.  You should be able to pick up a Linksys or Dlink for around 50-70 bucks that does a great job (although at high speeds >1.5Mbit, the NAT is noticeably slower then not NATting) for the price, and the linksys ones have some firewall and virus protection.  You can get fancy with them for a little more money and get like a linksys router setup for Vonage and do all your network IP translations as well as drop an analog phone port out connected to the Vonage network.

... Have been doing that for some time, but yes it can get tricky unless ya got xp on all machines. My question is can you put a router on the seconday Nic??  hmmm :Am running a web server and my isp is not real keen on that kinda thing if you have a lot of traffic

nah man i have 2 nic cards and want to use one for the internet connectioj and the other will be going out for a switch so i can therefore monitor how bandwith each lets say xbox is using wen im hosting

Peice of cake if you are running XP you already have 2 nics just go into your network connections and bridge the connection ok now you have a in coming connection for your internet and a out going connection to serve internet to another machine if you want to run 3,4.5...ect machines off it add a router to the out bound nic card as for controlling each machine as to how much of your incoming pipe you want them to have visit http://www.bandwidthcontroller.com/ for a real nice peice of software that will allow you to set speeds by a number of rules TCP UDP...ect.

You will have to hard set your IP, Subnet, & Gateway on the machines you want to control but it works great I run a wireless ISP

and compared to the $2000 bandwidth controller sys. you can buy there software for $50. plus you can try it for free for 30 days any question I might be able to help you with I would be glad to just email me at [email protected] just put something like (question about bandwidth controller in the subject line so I dont delete by mistake good luck and I hope this helps you out

You can control bandwidth on a router also.
