RaWDiZ Posted July 11, 2004 CID Share Posted July 11, 2004 Iight... I've been trying to find out the best RWIN that works for me and so far I had no luck... So lately I've been going to Broadbandreports.com and doing tha tweaktest and It told me to lower my Rwin in the 5860 to 7260 range... But when I do the TCP/IP analyzer it says:Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband... So who should I go with or should I go with someone else. RTB Posted July 11, 2004 CID Share Posted July 11, 2004 Depends on your average ping really. If you often download from high-ping, more than average packet loss servers, then I advise your RWIN to be low. Otherwise there would be a whole lot of packets to be resend when things go wrong. For good servers, turn the RWIN up a few notches. Speedy!
RaWDiZ Posted July 11, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 11, 2004 Also... Should there be a filter on the jack that tha dsl modem is on... Cause I've had alot of trouble figuring out this...
Swimmer Posted July 11, 2004 CID Share Posted July 11, 2004 I dont think you need to have a filter on the line that your modem is on... However if you use like a y adaptor, so that you can also have a telephone on the same line, you will then need a line filter... I am not positive on this because I have cable... My friend has sbc dsl and he doesnt have a filter on the modem line..
RaWDiZ Posted July 11, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 11, 2004 And one last thing... What do u think the best way is to find out ur latency... Because I've been using the RWIN Caculator lately and need to see if I am getting the correct speeds...
Swimmer Posted July 11, 2004 CID Share Posted July 11, 2004 start->run->cmd-> ping then some site.... it gives you the time in ms for the connection to become live...
RaWDiZ Posted July 12, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 12, 2004 I know that much... But it's like sometimes I don't get tha same range of numbers from all tha website... Ex: ping yahoo.com,I might get a average of 46ms,Then ping google.com I might get a average of 55ms or somthing...
RTB Posted July 12, 2004 CID Share Posted July 12, 2004 You'll want to ping a few download sites, they're the ones you want fast downloads from. Then average the ping, put it in the calc, and change the RWIN.

RaWDiZ Posted July 12, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 12, 2004 Alrighty... I pinged 4 sites that I go to the most which is... Tuscows.com,Download.com,Majorgeeks.com,and WINAMP... And When I pinged download.com I got 111ms,When I pinged Tuscows I got 101ms... But when I pinged Majorgeeks and Winamp I got:Request Timed Out.So what do I do about that
Swimmer Posted July 13, 2004 CID Share Posted July 13, 2004 dont worry about winamp or major geeks... They have it set so that people cant ping them for some reason... Probally a DoS attack or something.. Even on the tracert it doesnt show the end server's ip... 101ms is a little high but that is ok depending on where you are... I am running about 60ms.... Run some other pings and then average them...
ice Posted July 13, 2004 CID Share Posted July 13, 2004 My RWIN is like 72000 something, I forget. Works the best for my 4mb/s connection. I tested every single combination, that worked in hand with my MSS requested.
RaWDiZ Posted July 13, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 13, 2004 Is there any other sites u recommend I should ping... Cause when I ping download.com I get 100ms... But when I ping yahoo.com I get 40ms,same with google.com..

RTB Posted July 14, 2004 CID Share Posted July 14, 2004 Been a while since you've had maths? Add all ping tests up, then divide by the number of ping tests done. You can use Window's Calc for that.
