MarkX Posted April 22, 2005 CID Share Posted April 22, 2005 I apologyse for the Rant. Hi, I live in mexico and over here DSL prices for Home users are INSANELY Expensive, it figures since the company that provides this service is a Monopoly. These are the prices: 256/128 = $31 USD + Tax 512/128 = $52 USD + Tax 1000/256 = $86 USD + Tax 2000/512 = $399 USD + Tax 8000/2000 = Comming Soon for like a million dollars i BET! There is also Cable and Satellite, but satellite is even more expensive and Cable has really bad Service but is a little cheaper. I used to think my 512/128 kicked ASS until i found this site, now i feel like like i am on a 9600 baud modem LOL!! and paying for what some of you guys pay for a 5000/3000 Line. LOL We are getting the BIG SHAFT over here! Sorry for the rant, and what a great site you guys have here.

Guest helloimtim Posted April 25, 2005 CID Share Posted April 25, 2005 Looks like your speeds need some help. Tweaking it may help but Before you do that I would suggest a few ideas first. Run a scan for spyware and or viurs. Do a reset of your modum. Microsoft makes a nice free spyware program. Also spyware blaster is a good one. I use both. Spybot search and destroy is pretty good. Avast and Avg both make nice free anti virus programs. Check thoes out. Run them. IF your speeds are still that slow consider tweaking them. Seems like generally speaking xp is pretty tweaked for dsl. Hope this helps and welcome to the forum. Have a nice day.

MarkX Posted May 4, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 4, 2005 Amazing!! After checking out those links and using VanBurens_cablenut_settings_version_6_ALL_WIN_OS_AND_SATCABLE_DSL_FIBER_DIAL-UPWinXP_2K_CABLE_DSLMSS1460Cable & DSL 512 128.ccs And applying the EvID4226Patch211a-en.zip from 10 connections to 50 connections, my web browsing is much faster and my upload speeds jumped from 89 Kbps to 115 Kbps. The only thing that remained the same was my download speed of 460 Kbps. I am gonna check out more settings. Thank you so much , sincerely MarkX
MarkX Posted May 5, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 5, 2005 Looks like this company was under a lot of pressure from complaints or maybe competition from the cable and satellite internet providers and they just upgraded some of the accounts. Now the prices are as follows. 256/128 = This one will disappear or drop to $20 USD + tax, not sure yet. 512/128 = $31 USD + Tax 1000/256 = $52 USD + Tax 1384/256 = $86 USD + Tax (LOL!!) 2000/512 = No change here, still $399 USD + Tax I was automatically upgraded to 1000/256, now my speeds are: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 865 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 106 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (main) Bottom Line:: 15X faster than 56K 1MB download in 9.66 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 60.48 % faster than the average for host (com.mx) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-8AKZSB3ME :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 221 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Upload Speed is:: 27 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (main) Bottom Line:: 4X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 37.93 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 58.99 % faster than the average for host (com.mx) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-JV5TAB2S3 For some reason no matter what i do the download speed always caps at 865 Kbps, but thanx to the advice i got here i was able to UP my upload from 179 Kbps to 221 Kbps.
