Chais82 Posted July 15, 2005 CID Share Posted July 15, 2005 Well as of right now I'm with my cable company for internet and only supposed to be getting 5 Mbps down and 768 up but for some reason i get speeds much faster! Example this is a test I did during peak hours ... :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 7228 Kbps about 7.2 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Download Speed is:: 882 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Fri Jul 15 11:51:22 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 129X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.16 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 121.72 % faster than the average for host (Cox.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-CVERLXDBK :::.. But Fios is new to my area. Ive been waiting all year for them to be done setting up my town. Finally I'm do to have it installed and ready on July 19. I noticed a verizon truck working in my area on the lines and asked about fios and when it would be ready and he said I could order it now. Ive been going to verizon.com trying to order it but the site kept saying it wasn't available. So anyways I'm excited about getting Fios and figured I would share it with you guys. I'm getting the first month free so the package I chose was the 30/5 then I'll downgrade after the fist month. Ill post them results as soon as I get the service on Tuesday. CANT WAIT!!!! Well as far as I knew a cable modem couldn't download no faster than 1 MB/s so therefor 15 mbps (almost 2 MB/s) would be imposable for cox to offer. Also I pay for the premier package and they still only advertise 5 mbps down and 768 kbps up. But you seen my speeds though. This happen to a friend of mine who lives in another state and told me that it lasted for him about a month. So I still believe I'm just not being capped. Chais82 Posted July 15, 2005 Author CID Share Posted July 15, 2005 No i didnt reboot Ill do that now. while I do that could you answer this for me, Do you think Cox just cant give me the 15 cause of all the internet use in my neighborhood? Also seeing Cox cable and Verizon fios is the same speeds what would be better cable or fios? Im guessing fios seeing im not getting the 15 but only 8.5 to 9 late at night. Also thank you for your help!!!!! Some computers just need to be tweaked. Because when I had the 5Mbps/768kbps connection I would always do a speed test and get 3Mbps download but when I tweaked it I was getting 5.5Mbps download. FIOS is better. No shared connection, low latecy, and its Fiber Optics going throught your house. It looks like your connection was better without the tweaks. So im glad im doing the switch. But I orderd fios before i relized Cox did the upgrade but obviousely the way cable shares the connection fiber is better. Your tweeaks did help though i see a difference on certain sites now so ill do a test tonight and poost my results then. Once again thank you so much for your help! KingCobra Posted July 15, 2005 CID Share Posted July 15, 2005 FYI, I moved the thread here because the speeds and tweaks are currently related to your Cox connection and I didn't think it made sense to confuse any FIOS users.
