  1. @CA3LE Thank you for taking the time to explain to me. I cant explain why, but this stuff intrigues me. Ive been on here since fios first came to RI. I think the package was 30/5 at the time. Tech was amazed at the speed and didn't understand why I needed it. To be honest, I really didn't. Its just fun pushing the newest and best to its limits. Anyways, I will keep testing on the different servers like you suggested. I'm curious now the outcome.
  2. So after looking around and doing some research Ive figured out my issue on consistency. Well not exactly. But I went ahead and refreshed my windows with a new install. I am now seeing a more steady stream of data input/output. Another issue I was having is my upload would not reach above 500Mpbs using Ookla or Verizons speedtest. This went away with the fresh windows as well. Now as far as the speed results I get here at Testmy.net... I've concluded that I (or anyone for that matter) do not reach my advertised speeds do to internet congestion outside Verizon's network. So my one pc will never get true gigabit connection with another client. But my house as a whole with multiple devices and connections could theoretically come close to the bandwidth I'm paying for. This being because its not retrieving data from one source. But rather multiple sources all over in different locations. Now I know there is much more to this. And a lot more technical. But what are your thoughts? Am I understanding this right?
  3. Maybe I'm just ignorant. And I know a lot of work goes into this site. So i mean no disrespect. But this site's test results are always all over the place. But when I test on other sites like speedtest dot net and verizon's test sites(they test to pc and to router) I get a more consistent result. Why is this? below is my last few results. All within one another. Edit: So I did some reading on this site (its been a long time since I have and things have changed). I now understand a little better. Having fiber to the home Id expect better out of Verizon. Also, I too am a long time verizon customer. Since early 2000's when fios first came to RI. They too did not want to give me the $89.99 for their gigabit service and tv. So I called and said I was moving. I did not pay the early termination fee. On the same day service was to be disconnected I turn new service on in my wife's name. By the way, they wanted to charge me for just gigabit service with only local tv, $155 a month!
  4. I noticed this. I assumed it was too fast for testmy.net or just my pc and its hardware slowing the results down due to the way testmy.net does its test.
  5. Verion Fios 89.99 for internet, phone and tv. I pay for 940/880. Did the test while streaming on two tvs.
  6. I used to have the 30/5 and I will have it once again at the end of the month. ITs fios with verizon. I always got my speed at around 28.5 down and 5 up consistently unlike cable internet. It is true that there are very few sites out there that connect at that speed. But if you have a network with multible pc's and playstions like me its very usefull with no limitations. Just my thought.
  7. Fios is your problem. example, this is me on verizon fios... :::.. 8. do you know where I can find a manual on IE7. Examples of what Im looking for is in firefox if you hold control and click on a link it opens a tab. I can figure out if you can do that with IE7. Thanks
  9. So what do you think of my situation? It should be like yours, no?
  10. So when will the upload be more accurate for my 5 megs? Cause I only get a rateing of 3.5 megs so far which isnt correct.
  11. They offer 3 packages 5/2, 15/2, and 30/5 I have the 30/5 which I was told by the tech its geard more towards buisness but is for residential. Here are the three packages and priceing... http://www22.verizon.com/fiosforhome/channels/fios/root/package.asp
  12. Also cat6 will work fine! cat5e and up is good but they are running cat5e from the ONT to ur wall jack so maybe Im wrong but I dont see a reason to put any better grade wire. Also it sounds like u have a short in ur wires, or pinched the wires to tight, or didnt put the ends on correctly.
  13. Why not order online and get a free install, a free month, and a free router. When I tried to order it online last week it said it wasnt available for my address. So I called them told them I couldnt order online but still wanted the free install, router, and month and they said no problem because I asked for it!!! Just cgot my verizon fios thgis morning for not a dollar out of my pocket. took him 4 hours to install. here are my speeds.... :::.. 14. reformatt it or find out who makes the hard drive and go to there website they might have a program which can fix it. I had a hard drive that a thought sh!t the bed. I went to the site grabed there hard drive test program and used it to reformatt it cause trying to formatt it any other way wouldnt let me. The program put I think all zeros at the beginning and end of the hard drive which somehow made it to let me formatt it. I could be wrong about zeros it could have been ones but thats not the point. Make a long story short see if theres a program for ur hard drive at the website its manufactured from.If ur lucky like I was theyll have a diagnostics program to fix it. Maybe someone else will know of a program thats universal to all hard drives but im not sure if there is one.
