shouldn't i have a higher download speed? i think i have a problem, since its not even half of the 1.5

you may have a phone line problem. Is there a long line from the wall to the modem? Try to shorted the distance and make sure you have all filters installed. If all this fails call them up. Since you have your own line and not sharing line cable internet you should get almost 1.5Mbps Down. Is your upload close to what they advertise?

im using the phone line that verizon gave me, and i have all filters installed, and my upload reports are

:::.. Upload Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 365 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)

Upload Speed is:: 45 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1)

Test Time:: Thu Aug 04 2005 21:52:02 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time)

Bottom Line:: 7X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 22.76 sec

Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 58.21 % of your hosts average (verizon.net)

it looks fine to me..

since the upload speed is close to my advertised speed, is the download speed problem on my end?

There's a chance that verizon put you under a profile of 786 instread of 1500 because you live too far away.  A profile of 1500 might have not be stable enough for your area.  I'm actually not sure if verizon does this, but I'm sure SBC does. Maybe you should call and ask.

to the poster endofthebegginin: This message is in response to your email dated Aug 4, 2005.  You inquired about what your current speeds on your Verizon DSL are.  I will be happy to assist you.

Currently, you are receiving a maximum of 1.5Mbps downstream and a maximum of 384Kbps upstream.

so im pretty sure im getting 1.5Mb..unless he lied..haha..

. Test 146000 byte download

Actual data bytes sent: 146000

Actual data packets: 100

Max packet sent (MTU): 1500

Max packet recd (MTU): 1500

Retransmitted data packets: 0

sacks you sent: 0

pushed data pkts: 6

data transmit time: 1.466 secs

our max idletime: 139.1 ms

transfer rate: 60058 bytes/sec

transfer rate: 480 kbits/sec

This is not a speed test!

transfer efficiency: 100%

3. ICMP (ping) check

Minimum ping: 106 ms

Maximum ping: 107 ms

Ping stability:

106 106 107 107 107 107 107 107 107 107

i think thats what you want

It looks like your sync rate isn't up to the full 1500.  Like I said before, if you live too far away from the CO, verizon won't give the full 1500 because it will cause problems.  That guy didn't lie to you because he said up to 1500 which includes 896.  You'll have to call verizon and talk to a tech to see if it's possible to bump up your sync rate.

You're getting a decent speed right now since your dsl rate is only 869.

No problem.  I had a similar problem before just a week ago.  I thought I was under sbc's 1.5 package but it turned out I was only getting 384.  I talked to a tech and he manage to bump the sync rate to 1.5.  If you're lucky, a tech will be able to do the same.

That looks more like an overclocked 768K DSL than 1.5M  . My modem is the same way  that it can show it  more than  400Kbps higher than my advertised speed  . So I have to say  it  can be...

1) Spyware , Adware  , or viruses

                    or

2) Verizon basically lied and said  you got the 1.5  but  you got the 768

As minus well,  how  far  you live  from your CO  in feet?

My DSL Connect Rate (Down/Up)    3360 KBits/Sec by 800 KBits/Sec

Advertised  DSL Speed (Down/Up)  3000 KBits/Sec by 768 Kbits/Sec

i dont know how far i live from my CO..how do i find out? just call them or email them and ask?

You could call verizon and ask someone to perform a line test and he could give you a distance estimate. You could also check at http://www.broadbandreports.com/prequal/distance .  Usually the distance verizon gives is more accurate than that test.

2) Verizon basically lied and said  you got the 1.5  but  you got the 768

I wouldn't say that verizon lied because it's up to 1.5 which could mean anything below 1.5.
