Make sure the cables are plugged in properly and not damaged...

yeh it happened to me before, turn off your computer unplug the speaker cable from the computer and connect it again, it should work

or you blew the speakers cuz you were listenin to much too loud lol

also check that any balance sliders in the volume control and or the soundcards utils are centered. remember some speakers, no idea what you have, are interconnected to a subwoofer or the like. check those lines as well.
