I had a tech come out cause they said i was in the red on there reading. The Tech hooked up his laptop and ran a test with my modem and he said test ran fine. but i showed him this site and its only 29KB and i use DC++and my upload is only 29 ok there, WinMX 29 there FTP sites 29KB... is this all i can do. I ran adaware and pest patrol, checked for virus but still getting this speed everytime. Any Help will make me happy even if i can get it to 40KB lol. I tried cablenut and did it with the 3000 down and i tried with 5000 down but still upload sucks. Frost Posted October 21, 2004 Author CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 Oh and i did buy a new NIC card too but that didn't help. Tech told me it had to to with my PC. Thought i needed to add that. I'm running WinXP Sp2
Guest PeePs Posted October 21, 2004 CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 When ISP's advertise speeds they almost always use bits. Not Bytes. You are getting pretty much exactly what you pay for. You get 240 kb/s and your advertised speed is 256 kb/s.
Swimmer Posted October 21, 2004 CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 no it is correct.... 240 is a good score..
Frost Posted October 21, 2004 Author CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 well the test everywhere i test says i'm too low on my uploads. and when upload ppl say it should be at least in the 80KB range for cable
Swimmer Posted October 22, 2004 CID Share Posted October 22, 2004 that is because most of the cable uploads are in the 300s.. comcast is a little slow... to be in the 80s it would have to be around 600s upload... :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 1264 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 1013 KB) Upload Speed is: 154 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 23 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 6.65 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=XI04HG8LV

RTB Posted October 22, 2004 CID Share Posted October 22, 2004 I need to find that 12 Kbps upload test I once did. I'm glad that time is over, decent upload is finally available to be as well. It's still only half your upload. *adds PeePs to the hitlist*

Guest PeePs Posted October 23, 2004 CID Share Posted October 23, 2004 PeePs, Your link shows over 600Kbps.......thats a good upload in my book Well microwave, it appears we are reading two different books . When at one time you had 2000 kbs upload, then it is dropped down to 600 it sucks!
MICROWAVE Posted October 23, 2004 CID Share Posted October 23, 2004 Well microwave, it appears we are reading two different books . When at one time you had 2000 kbs upload, then it is dropped down to 600 it sucks! Sorry I didn't mean that going from 1898 to 615 wasn't a large loss, what I was saying is until recently mine and many others speed was less than 256,and now I'm around 500 most of the time yes losing 2/3 of your upload does suck but what you now have is still faster than mine and many others...obtw what upload do you pay for?? I ask because I thought you said in an earlier post that they were giving you much more up speed than you paid for ,and then they decided to cap you.If you pay for 2048 for instance and only get 600 now you should be pissed as I sure would....I also didn't mean you didn't have a valid beef, I only meant that your up is still much faster than the average person.....no DIS intended:) Microwave
Guest PeePs Posted October 24, 2004 CID Share Posted October 24, 2004 lol, well i dont even know their advertised speeds. but if i go to dslreports.com and do their speed test and compare my results with most people in my area, they have up around 1500 upload. So basically i think im just getting screwed right now, but im affraid to call them because they might be like "We capped your upload because you were uploading illegal files to everyone" and then ill run away and hide. Man 1500 upload would be really expensive I would think....... The only reason I mention this is my friend was paying for a more expensive package and wasnt getting it,we just kinda found out by accident but, when he called they fixed it for him but it was adsl connection I think:) Microwave

I, too, have Comcast and have to deal with those ALMOST exact speeds. When I find some spare time, I'm going to attempt to try some tweaks recommended by Van Buren. GO RED SOX and PATS!! .... Swimmer Posted October 26, 2004 CID Share Posted October 26, 2004 I was on comcast at home.. I found that tweaking on comcast doesnt seem to help very much.. they seem to push as much bandwidth to each client as they can ask long as the network speed maintains a constant speed... ABMJR Posted October 30, 2004 CID Share Posted October 30, 2004 Is there a way to get any more Upload speed from Comcast?..I agree, the 29 K is on the slow size, only about 4.5 times more than our old dial-up 56k...Does Comcast ever allow individual users to have their Uploads maybe doubled?..Or is this a fixed thing?..Without talking about uncapping, Is there any other way to get some more BW? RTB Posted October 30, 2004 CID Share Posted October 30, 2004 Attempt to tweak upload first, then try complaining to Comcast.
Swimmer Posted October 30, 2004 CID Share Posted October 30, 2004 try and tweak.. dont compain to comcast.. cause they will not care.. as long as you are with in about 50kb of 250kb for upload.. they will not care..
