bent240LV Posted September 6, 2005 CID Share Posted September 6, 2005 my dad had lost his sound, he bought a new SB live 24 bit card and still no audio. His mobo is a MSI K7N2 and i made sure the onboard audio was not on and so forth. He did the install but i assume he did it correctly becasue it shows the hardware in the device manage. When i ran the diagnostics from creative most of the test failed the midi test and whatever else it test for. I tried many thing uninstalling re-installing enabling on board disabling on baord audio. Cant seem to figure it out, maybe one of you might have a clue at to waht is going on.

dn0 Posted September 6, 2005 CID Share Posted September 6, 2005 I guess now I'm curious as I'm sure you are. Did he maybe try some headphones in the headphone port? This just to eliminate the speaker system being the culprit. I would think a new sound card, with new drivers would probably eliminate the board. Would the on board sound and then the new sound card still use common resources of the mobo?
t1wireless Posted September 6, 2005 CID Share Posted September 6, 2005 is the computer reading that it has a sound card in the pci slot? if not take the card out and put it back in.
Swimmer Posted September 6, 2005 CID Share Posted September 6, 2005 If the creative tests are failing then there is a problem.. check creative site for the latest drivers, app, and firmware.. If that doesnt work then I would call tech support and see if you can RMA the card
bent240LV Posted September 6, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 6, 2005 ok ill have him try it again, you think i should have him remove every device under sound, video and game controllers? and then turn the computer off take out the card and maybe try another PCI slot if he has one.
