darkkie Posted September 25, 2005 CID Share Posted September 25, 2005 Well for the past week or so I've been getting high pings to testmy.net, here is an example of my ping times for server2.testmy.net. Ping statistics for 67.18.179.85: Packets: Sent = 20, Received = 20, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 86ms, Maximum = 103ms, Average = 89ms I have Comcast cable, the highest package, which is 8000/768. Here is one of my test results I have just taken. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 4499 Kbps about 4.5 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 549 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Sat Sep 24 2005 20:08:53 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 80X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.87 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 4.36 % faster than the average for host (comcast.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-93WQXSIPV That speed is very inaccurate, I've run dozens of other tests and I get about 8200kbps download speed. I also downloaded a test file from java.sun.com and the speed stabilized at 1030kb/s. The strange thing is when I run a upload test on server2.testmy.net the speed is accurate (about 740kbps). Please post if you know of anything I could do to resolve this, as testmy.net is my favorite website.

How about posting a tracert to testmy.net. Or, if you have XP, try "pathping testmy.net" in Command Prompt and post those results back here. BTW, pathping test takes time, so let it run if you didn't already know this.

dn0 Posted September 25, 2005 CID Share Posted September 25, 2005 It looks like it jumps from 10ms pings to 84ms pings somewhere inside of AT&T's network.....
darkkie Posted September 25, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 25, 2005 Thanks for the replies, Maybe I'll just contact Comcast and see if they can resolve it.

Swimmer Posted September 25, 2005 CID Share Posted September 25, 2005 Reply from 67.18.179.85: bytes=32 time=44ms TTL=49 Reply from 67.18.179.85: bytes=32 time=44ms TTL=49 Reply from 67.18.179.85: bytes=32 time=45ms TTL=49 Reply from 67.18.179.85: bytes=32 time=44ms TTL=49 That is what I am at right now.. sounds like you might be hitting a busy router.. My guess is that the hurricane has slowed down some of the routers in the south.. one of the servers is located in Texas.. So all of the net traffic in the south is going to have to be rerouted around the areas that were hit..
dn0 Posted September 25, 2005 CID Share Posted September 25, 2005 Good point, Swimmer. That is why you are a mod and I am a low life nothing. :haha: But that very well is a possibility darkkie. BTW, Swimmer, I did not realize darkkie posted this topic twice (tisk, tisk ); maybe you can merge them? edit: On a side note that doesn't really matter - 500th post /happy_bday.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':bday:' />:' />
Swimmer Posted September 25, 2005 CID Share Posted September 25, 2005 It is going to be out of their control.. the entire internet in the us is kinda screwed up.. With 2 hurricanes hitting with in a month.. there is not all that much they can do..
