Impact Posted October 21, 2005 CID Share Posted October 21, 2005 I see all the servers in my server list and the ping is about 80-100, but when I join its instantly 999 or more. The strange thing is that this only happens in 3 games 'unreal tournament,quake4,quake2' every other game works fine. I have three computers on this network, out of them all 3 wont get the correct ping in quake2, only 1 wont get the correct ping in unreal tournament, and so far only one has been tested with qauke4 and it didnt work, its also the same one that doesnt work with unreal tournament. My internet is 256/64 from www.connexus.net.au, my modem is netcomm nb1300. I have formated the computer that didnt run all 3 games, and I have tried 3 different network cards all didnt make any difference. GameArena is the server I play on in hl2dm, css, quake3 and it works fine on them games. Its used as a example but all the servers in the list do the same thing. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Lukedower/Quake42005-10-2111-49-22-28.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Lukedower/Quake42005-10-2111-50-11-51.jpg C:DOCUME~1LUKE>tracert 70.86.174.69 Tracing route to 69.70-86-174.reverse.theplanet.com [70.86.174.69] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 34 ms 40 ms 32 ms 192.168.1.1 2 41 ms 39 ms 40 ms loop1.core1-col5.Mel.connexus.net [203.34.175.11 3] 3 42 ms 40 ms 39 ms FastEthernet1-0-12.cor4.mel.connect.com.au [210. 8.234.50] 4 38 ms 40 ms 38 ms ge-0-1-0.dst2.mel.connect.com.au [203.63.11.237] 5 40 ms 38 ms 38 ms so-3-0-1.cre1.bur.connect.com.au [202.10.0.135] 6 56 ms 60 ms 59 ms so-5-1-0.cre1.hay.connect.com.au [202.10.0.250] 7 57 ms 60 ms 58 ms so-1-0-0.bdr5.syd.connect.com.au [202.10.4.92] 8 59 ms 59 ms 59 ms p5-0.sybr3.global-gateway.net.nz [203.96.120.121 ] 9 * * * Request timed out. 10 * * * Request timed out. 11 212 ms 210 ms 211 ms sl-gw15-ana-6-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.241.81] 12 210 ms 214 ms 208 ms sl-bb22-ana-3-3.sprintlink.net [144.232.1.217] 13 206 ms 210 ms 205 ms sl-bb25-ana-13-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.1.142] 14 245 ms 244 ms 244 ms sl-bb24-fw-1-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.9.65] 15 233 ms 238 ms 237 ms sl-bb27-fw-14-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.11.74] 16 241 ms 239 ms 239 ms sl-st20-dal-1-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.9.136] 17 242 ms 237 ms 238 ms sl-theplanet-5-0.sprintlink.net [144.223.244.142 ] 18 245 ms 235 ms 238 ms vl32.dsr01.dllstx3.theplanet.com [70.85.127.61] 19 242 ms 235 ms 239 ms po32.dsr1-2.dllstx5.theplanet.com [70.85.127.110 ] 20 243 ms 240 ms 238 ms po1.sm-car4.dllstx5.theplanet.com [70.84.160.134 ] 21 240 ms 244 ms 243 ms 69.70-86-174.reverse.theplanet.com [70.86.174.69 ] Trace complete. :::.. AgentGOD Posted October 24, 2005 CID Share Posted October 24, 2005 Well for one, those games REQUIRE at LEAST a 2 Mbps connection for the best possible online experience. If we are to further help you, you need to give your system specifications. By the way, I noticed you lived in austrailia, and yes, that does impact some on the connection performance. TestMy.net is in the United States, and it's basically a few thousand miles away.
lorne Posted October 24, 2005 CID Share Posted October 24, 2005 Its not the speed it is latency and stability of connection that makes the game laggy or makes you get DCed on online games. You don't need a 2mbps connection for games to be smooth as they should be. His pings are good until he is game so possibly the computers are not fast enough. If he loads the game and it is taking all resources it may not be leaving anything for his connection to be managed therefore cutting it off (999 ping). So yeah we need system specs forsure
Marcin541 Posted October 24, 2005 CID Share Posted October 24, 2005 They require atleast a 56k connection to play and 2mb to host a server
