2MBIT!?? Serious problems

Hello all.

I signed up for TalkTalk broadband 1Mbit service around 6 months ago. I recently "upgraded" to 2Mbit with them. There has been no real change in the download rates that i can achieve following this upgrade. Below is my "testmy" results. (pretty poor! for 2mbit no?) During normal windows downloads i achieve around 120kB/s MAX from UK servers - what should I be expecting? I have just carried out a format/reinstall of XP pro Sp2 etc and no infections are present. The modem supplied with the package is a Sagem F@st 800 E3.

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 537 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB)

Download Speed is:: 66 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2)

Test Time:: Fri Oct 28 19:02:00 UTC+0100 2005

Bottom Line:: 10X faster than 56K 1MB download in 15.52 sec

Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 38.76 % faster than the average for host (87.248)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-TSCVR987N

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Somethings not right!!  :cry:

I dont have a router. What do you mean by modes??

I ran a speedtest dialed up to BT (the company that supplies my phone line) on bt's speedtester and was given a score of around 1.9Mbit which is great and proves that my line is fine surely?

I then ran the same test dialed up to TalkTalk broadband and came out at around 0.8Mbit! ?? I have rang the isp and they keep telling me to check with BT ....BT tell me to talk to my ISP!  :cry:

When ringing the ISP are there any "technical" things that i can request to be done?

Thanks again

holly hell, a usb 1.1 bus powered modem? ok, bomb your isp. or, if you feel like spending a little cash, ask the tech support fraggle at the isp for a list of modems approved by them, and buy one with a network interface, if you have more than one comp/console you want to hook up get one with an integrated router/firewall. maybe try begging the tech support to exchange that pos modem for something better.
