omgitsjames08 Posted November 4, 2005 CID Share Posted November 4, 2005 I know I have a static IP. But everytime my modem gets reset or power goes out my ip changes. I'm running a Counter-Strike: Source Server and I don't want the ip to change. anyway I can program the IP not to change?
FallowEarth Posted November 4, 2005 CID Share Posted November 4, 2005 You can program your computer's TCP/IP to only accept 1 IP address (configure statically), but if you are in fact on a dynamic connection (DHCP), this will render your internet useless. -Control Panel --> network connections -right-click on local area connection (if hardwired) or wireless connection (if wireless), click properties -click to highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click properties -place a dot where it says Use the following IP address, and put in the appropriate information
resopalrabotnick Posted November 4, 2005 CID Share Posted November 4, 2005 what ip changes. your private one, the 192.168.xxx.xxx or the public one of your modem?
raptors892004 Posted November 4, 2005 CID Share Posted November 4, 2005 just get a free dns name from sites such as DyDns or whatever else u can find.. Some even have programs so they update the IP that the domain name you selected leads to (if your IP changes, the program reports your new IP so that the name domain still works).. That way you will also get an actual name for your server - not just IP #s
