DVD drives not recognizing dvd disks

OK... I realy need some help with this one.

I have a DVD-ROM and a DVD-RW in my machine.

The system and OS (XP media center edition) both see the drives for what they are until I insert a DVD into either drive. At that time the icon in MY COMPUTER changes to CD-DRIVE designation and will not read the DVD.

The DVD-RW will read and write cds with no problem.

Thanks in advance.

BTW..this is a fresh install of windows also.
