loonyx Posted November 9, 2005 CID Share Posted November 9, 2005 Ok I have verizon fios with the package 15/2, i get the speeds I pay for but I am having a problem when downloading from FTP's. When I download something from a HTTP I will get the full speed of 1.5mb/s but when I download off an ftp it will max out at 600kb/s and will not exceed. But if I open up three ftp clients, and download at the same time, I will get a steady 500kb/s meaning I am getting the speed I want, but why cant I just use one client and get 1.5mb/s. I know it is not the server im getting my information from and I am pretty sure it is not my client. It just doesn't make sense. Can anyone help or provide an explanation? TraNsEdgE 01 Posted November 9, 2005 CID Share Posted November 9, 2005 The server you are dling off of also has to have ample amount of bandwidth to support you 1.5 mb/s , which isn't 15 mbps down and some ftp's have a limit on the speed they will let you download off them. tbaker397 Posted November 9, 2005 CID Share Posted November 9, 2005 if you open 3 clients, connect to the same server and all 3 download at 500Kb/s then the server has its FTP speed throttled so as to now let one person hog it all.
satcom Posted November 10, 2005 CID Share Posted November 10, 2005 The FTP server controls the amount of bandwidth that you are allowed. I set up a test FTP server to a DS3 connection to test a ADSL2+ connection between two central offices and was getting 15Mbps. The ADSL2+ line was set to 18Mbps down & 1.2Mbps up.
