ss Posted November 12, 2005 CID Share Posted November 12, 2005 I applied all the tips in stickies after copius reading. I have Road runner Cable (supposedly 5000/384) I setup Cnut with version7 settings Cable 4000/384. (I have also tried 6000/384) My speeds did increase but there are some strage artifiacts: Whereas my speeds previously were incredibly stable (4200/350) now there is a wide range of testing speeds:

ROM-DOS Posted November 12, 2005 CID Share Posted November 12, 2005 HEY VanBuren (or anyone else); As some of you may know ~ I'm using Dial-Up to connect and trying to 'optimize' my CableNut settings for on-line gaming. I've recently discovered I can play in large servers(with 64 players) and still stay connected(WOO HOO). So, the question is ~ "can someone help me understand these settings;" MaxFastTransmit: Default: 64 KB Valid Range:

ratchet Posted November 13, 2005 CID Share Posted November 13, 2005 Did you set that max window size? I use the auto TCP program for max speed of 5mbps and it set my window at 256960. I'm wondering if I should set it like yours since it looks like its really efficient.
ss Posted November 13, 2005 Author CID Share Posted November 13, 2005 Can't hurt to try, can it? Van mentioned that my computer may be having a problem with such alarge window size so I lowered it... hm. Whatever... I'm happy.
ratchet Posted November 15, 2005 CID Share Posted November 15, 2005 ss, I lowered the window to 170000 and my speed went from 4.7+change mbps to 4.5+. When I went back to 256960 it tested at 4.5 again anyway so any or all of the scores could have been because of traffic. Suffice it to say the TCP setting is probably not way out of wack so I'll just leave it at the default. Thank You for the reply!
