water Posted November 20, 2005 CID Share Posted November 20, 2005 Sure, should be easy enough, use the old one as a server, so you can see the drive there as a networking drive. That won't hinder the performance of the newer PC. Think of an office network with workstatons, new pc = workstation, old one server/storage etc. Have fun! Dark_Matter Posted November 20, 2005 CID Share Posted November 20, 2005 If you just want to link two computers together the easiest way would be using a CrossOver cable. It's not a hard task to do. If you need help just ask or even easier (Google It). Ehhhh
resopalrabotnick Posted November 21, 2005 CID Share Posted November 21, 2005 or if you've got two comps and want both on tyhe net you will need a router anyhow, and that will also serve as the link between the 2 comps.
Dark_Matter Posted November 21, 2005 CID Share Posted November 21, 2005 both computers can be on the internet at the same time with a CrossOver cable also. Internet Connection Sharing will do the trick. Each computer is issued a local ip with just a simple CrossOver cable as well.
rammolo Posted November 21, 2005 CID Share Posted November 21, 2005 Hi, in the last answer the downside is that the host computer should be on so the other can access inet
resopalrabotnick Posted November 21, 2005 CID Share Posted November 21, 2005 plus you need 2 nics in one comp to share the connection or you need to run the modem over usb. a router is simpler to set up and config, has some firewall protection, other comp doesn't need to be on, doesn't need 2 nics in one comp, etc, etc, etc.
deerkill10 Posted November 21, 2005 CID Share Posted November 21, 2005 wireless router is the way to go it gives you 4 wired ports as well as a number of wireless ports depending on the router mine has 18 this will give you room to upgrade to more computers in the future
